3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 harrisoni (10067) - Ashford, Kent, ENGLAND - NOV 23, 2006
Cask handpull at The Bridge House, London. Ruby colour with disappearing beige head. Slightly sour fruit aroma. Wonderful in mouth. Dark fruit aroma. Has some sourness. Bit like Harvey’s Old, lacks the real sourness I’m looking for. Sour plums and tobacco, fruit and choc and very slight sourness in mouth. Finish lasts with slightly sour plum, Victoria Plum, I rather like the fruit. I like it, fruity and interesting. Soft mouth feel.

Aroma is malty, fruity, grassy and floural. Taste is similar with a small amount of tartness, a bit brown ale like, as theres a hidden nuttyness.

Cask (handpump), Bridge House, Tower Bridge. A welcome return for this beer which, at one time, seemed to have been jettisoned from the Adnams portfolio. Attractive deep ruby red colour, with a lasting beige head. Sweet, malty aroma with liquorice and caramel accents. Fruity, juicy flavour, with the emphasis on cherry and some dry notes underlying. Elements of chocolate with the liquorice developing into the finish. Smooth and sweetish. Rather nice but lacks a touch of bite on the finish.

Cask at Wellington Arms, Bedford. Dark brown, malty aroma. Rich, dark fruit taste, warming, chocolately and full of flavour. Some bitterness.
3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 StueyD (660) - Heacham, King’s Lynn, Norfolk, ENGLAND - MAR 6, 2006
A dark, chocolatey brown beer with a thick white head. The nose is strong, malty with sweet caramel tones and a hint of liquorice. The taste is again strong on sweet malt. There is a distinct bittersweet note to the smooth finish. (Draught - The Lifeboat, Thornham, Norfolk).

Cask - Twisted Spoke, Chicago: deep, opaque plum with an extra thin off-tan head. Subtle aroma of rich, dark fruits and raisins, backed-up by a bit of earth and oak. Flavours reminds me of reduced red wine, just before the sauce becomes perfect, along with an underlying chocolate and a bit of alcohol. A true blessing on cask right up the street from me apartment…

Draught.
An excellent beer. Not much head to start, no head retention.
Chocolate, roasty flavours tasted, with a hint of dark fruit.
3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 duff (5483) - St, Margarets, Greater London, ENGLAND - JUN 28, 2004
Cask@The Wenlock Arms. Was a little dissapointed, but it was OK. A bit raw in flavour, nothing really pokes out in the flavour or mouthfeel department (or in appearance and aroma for that matter). In other words, it tastes of its ingredients and nothing else. Some dry, lightly resiny hops to finsi off. NOthing fancy, but still liked it, some soft chocolate and acidity noticed.

Cambridge Beer Festival. Gravity. Dark brown with a light refreshing body finishing with a bitter chocolate kick. Elements of red wine moving into sherry. This really grows in character and has elements of some of Harvey’s ales. A true gem.

UPDATED: JUN 2, 2004 Cask Conditioned, at the Wenlock Arms, London. Dark brown with a lot of mystery. This is an old beer that’s beer revisited for the Wenlock and perhaps one or two other pubs that are close to the scene. I’ve had at least 2-3 pints of this beauty and they all tasted great.
