Cask conditioned - handpump - Malt Shovel Northampton. A dark brown coloured beer with a dark red hue. The aroma is malty and dry with some oily fishy notes. The taste is dry, malty and fruity. Mellow, mild and clean. Very drinkable and true to style.

Feb 16, 2008 Cask at The Cock and Hen Fulham 4 Feb 08. Dark mahogany colored. A small off white creamy head. Disappointing lack of aroma. Quite good looking. Modest flavor with traces of caramel. Hardly any more to report.

A bit grainy, rather anonymous beer, there is nothing here that leaps put and hits you. I think it is true to character - the opposite of fresh. A little nuttiness.

Mar 8, 2007 Cask, Burton Winter Fest 07. Deep red/brown with small head. Aromas are malty with weetabix and traces of aniseed. Some chocolate with herbal notes. Flavours are sweet and malty with cola. Fruity and herbal notes. Dry on the finish. A nice traditional ale.

Feb 10, 2007 Cask@Burton 12th Winter Beer Festival. Blackish/red beer with a fruity and watery dry aroma and a meak and mildly bitter flavour. Overall an average beer.

Dec 30, 2006 Cask conditioned at The Old Fourpenny Shop Hotel, Warwick. Dark brown, ruby hued beer with light brown head. This is a sweetish but tart beer with a heavy plummy fruitiness, plenty of roasted malt in the body, but not to the depth of a stout / porter. Aromatic nose. Pretty drinkable.
