Draught. An excellent beer. Not much head to start, no head retention. Chocolate, roasty flavours tasted, with a hint of dark fruit.

Cambridge Beer Festival. Gravity. Dark brown with a light refreshing body finishing with a bitter chocolate kick. Elements of red wine moving into sherry. This really grows in character and has elements of some of Harvey’s ales. A true gem.

Cask - Twisted Spoke, Chicago: deep, opaque plum with an extra thin off-tan head. Subtle aroma of rich, dark fruits and raisins, backed-up by a bit of earth and oak. Flavours reminds me of reduced red wine, just before the sauce becomes perfect, along with an underlying chocolate and a bit of alcohol. A true blessing on cask right up the street from me apartment…

Cask conditioned at The Old Fourpenny Shop Hotel, Warwick. Dark brown, ruby hued beer with light brown head. This is a sweetish but tart beer with a heavy plummy fruitiness, plenty of roasted malt in the body, but not to the depth of a stout / porter. Aromatic nose. Pretty drinkable.

UPDATED: FEB 21, 2010 Cask conditioned - handpump - Malt Shovel Northampton. A dark brown coloured beer with a dark red hue. The aroma is malty and dry with some oily fishy notes. The taste is dry, malty and fruity. Mellow, mild and clean. Very drinkable and true to style. Score 3.7

Cask handpull at The Bridge House, London. Ruby colour with disappearing beige head. Slightly sour fruit aroma. Wonderful in mouth. Dark fruit aroma. Has some sourness. Bit like Harvey’s Old, lacks the real sourness I’m looking for. Sour plums and tobacco, fruit and choc and very slight sourness in mouth. Finish lasts with slightly sour plum, Victoria Plum, I rather like the fruit. I like it, fruity and interesting. Soft mouth feel.
