Cask handpull at Wenlock Arms, London. Black, dark beige/tan head. Decent fullish stout. Great roasted slightly toasty stout. Bit of liquorice. Lovely rich stout. Not too subtle, but a decent stout wtih moderate richness.

Cask Conditioned at The Black Horse, Moreton Morrell, Warks. Black with ruby hint and tan head. Lovely thick stout, dry and powdery with a chocolate roasted malt. Nutty at the finish with a silky smoothness. Very good beer, however; this used to be 4.6 ABV and somehow I remember it being a little better.

A Mes rate. Cask handpull at the Market Porter.
Black body with a reasonable beige head. Decent roasty stout with plenty of dark malt and some faint chocolate. Odd note of seaweed in the dry finish. Standard fayre, nothing special.

Cask (handpump) at the Bridge House, Tower Bridge, February 2007. Black with a reddish tinge. No head, just a thin collar of beige foam. Chocolate and modest roast malt aroma. Dry on the palate with a roasted, burnt malt feel. Less chocolate. Slight salty edge. Clean, light mouthfeel. Perfectly OK but lacks a little impact - overall impression is dry, roasted and light.

Cask, handpump at The Regal, JDW, Cambridge 15.02.12 Viewing this half pint from inside this cavernous ’Batcave’ dingiliy lit pub it looks dark brown. Soft in the mouth, sweet maltiness, easy going roastiness, little bit thin but overall a very likeable and decent beer. A7 A4 T7 P3 Ov14 3.5

(Cask at White Horse, Parson’s Green, London, 17 Apr 2009) Pitch black colour with foamy, brown head. Roasted, malty nose with notes of coffee and ashes. Roasted, malty taste with coffee (espresso), dark chocolate and a hint of liquorice and sweetness in the roasted (almost burnt) and salty finish. Rather light body.

Cask-conditioned at the Euston Tap, 10/02/2011. Jet black with a thin tan head. Sweetish aroma of chocolate and cereal malts with a salty edge. Savoury malt flavour, slightly dense and chewy, with bitter chocolate and the soy mentioned by others. Different.
