Cask at the Victoria Station JDW. Pitch black with loose beige head; aroma of malty chocolate; soft and creamy in the mouth with red fruits and sweet malts; the finish is dry and warming with richly roasted malts and a touch of dark chocolate. Really enjoyable.

Cask, handpump at The Regal, JDW, Cambridge 15.02.12 Viewing this half pint from inside this cavernous ’Batcave’ dingiliy lit pub it looks dark brown. Soft in the mouth, sweet maltiness, easy going roastiness, little bit thin but overall a very likeable and decent beer. A7 A4 T7 P3 Ov14 3.5

Cask-conditioned at the Euston Tap, 10/02/2011. Jet black with a thin tan head. Sweetish aroma of chocolate and cereal malts with a salty edge. Savoury malt flavour, slightly dense and chewy, with bitter chocolate and the soy mentioned by others. Different.

Leighton (4087) - London, Greater London, ENGLAND - FEB 11, 2011
Cask at the Euston Tap. Pours dark brown with a very faint film. Hold a nose of hard, chocolate malts with a mineral quality. Lightly sweet, has some nice charcoal and tobacco, along with a slight saltiness and hints of ham. Light to medium bodied with fine carbonation. Dark, lightly sweet malt finish with mild smoke. Really good beer.

Pours out a nice dense black with brown hue. The nose is quite earthy & tarry & a little green. Palate is a nice light to medium weight, & very smooth, there is a nice nutty, dark malty flavour going on but this green, chewing on grass flavour permeates throughout, especially on the finish. It reminds me of a young or poorly made wine where you can taste the skins of the grape. Really disappointing as I’ve loved this beer in the past. I set up & opened the barrel myself so its fresh as a daisy. I will have to search out another barrel to see if its just mine that’s average, or whether they balls up this release.
