COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Available (pasteurised) in 500ml bottles and 500ml cans.
A refreshing beer of real flavour - distinctively hoppy and dry with malt aromas. Delicious served cool.
Adnams brewery has stood in the heart of Southwold for over six hundred years and "Southwold Jack" appears on our beer labels. He continues to guard over our longest-serving beer brewed here in Southwold on the Suffolk coast -The Bitter. Bitter goes well with roast meats and fish cooked in batter as the clean bitterness cuts through the slightly fatty notes and hence keeps the palate refreshed. Our Bitter also makes a good aperitif.

Medium beige head. Deep amber body with carbonation. Caramelly earthy buttery aroma with nutty notes. Dryish caramelly nutty taste with spicy buttery notes. Mid-to-light body. Mild, soft mouthfeel. Dryish spicy nutty malty aftertaste with soy sauce notes. Nice, if a bit simple. (0.5l can, Systembolaget Charlottenberg.)

Here’s the pitch. There’s this guy, like a cowboy but he finds himself north of the Danelaw. He doesn’t know how he got there but he has a mysterious scar on his hand. His right hand. He only has one hand. Quickly pursued by marauding outlaw Danes he winds up lost in a type of supermarket. He decides on a shoot first ask questions later policy. Unfortunately, the only thing he has to shoot is the breeze. So he decides to die. Death by cop style. Seriously, you couldn’t make it up.

pours a chestnut brown, quite a bit of frothy head, about a third of the pint glass even with careful pouring. Soon dissipates to leave about a 1cm head throughout the pint. Full flavoured with good strength of body. Malt charachter definitely at the fore with traditional hop combinations taking a back seat. A proper english bitter. More of an ale for colder weather.

2/25/13. 500mL bottle, sample from a distro, I believe. Not quite clear amber brown pour with a small, soapy khaki head that fades to a soapy ring with minimal lacing. Mild biscuit and caramel on the aroma with a touch of metal and fruitiness. Even maltier flavor with bold caramel and bread and a touch of fruity metal. Not bad.

UPDATED: SEP 7, 2014 Bottled 14/02/13. A brown beer which poured headless. A bitter beer lacking the house yeastiness of an Adnams cask product. Nice fruity flavours in the mouth. Some cardboard in the nose but all in all it’s not bad. Score 3.2

Deep amber with a small off-white head. Aroma is a bit vegetal and some floral hops. Biscuit, toffee and a surprising amount of bittering hops.

Bottle from 16 Tons, Eugene. Pours a golden amber color. Richy, doughy maltiness in aroma. Body is slightly creamy, finish is sweet and bready, a bit abrupt. Wasn’t overwhelmed, but a pleasant enough beer.

Brownish amber appearance. Smell is butterscotch and floral hops, nice bit of crystal malt. Flavor is slightly woody, mild hops, mild bitterness, pleasant bread, butterscotch, light fruit, and caramel malt flavor.
