COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Available (pasteurised) in 500ml bottles and 500ml cans.
A refreshing beer of real flavour - distinctively hoppy and dry with malt aromas. Delicious served cool.
Adnams brewery has stood in the heart of Southwold for over six hundred years and "Southwold Jack" appears on our beer labels. He continues to guard over our longest-serving beer brewed here in Southwold on the Suffolk coast -The Bitter. Bitter goes well with roast meats and fish cooked in batter as the clean bitterness cuts through the slightly fatty notes and hence keeps the palate refreshed. Our Bitter also makes a good aperitif.

500 ml bottle, from Vaaland, Bryne. ABV is 4.1%. Copper coloured beer, moderate off-white head. Moderate aroma, some malts and toffee, hints of stale berries and "dusty" hops. The flavour has again some malts and toffee, but is quite dry. Just a hint of fruit. Moderately bitter hops in the finish, some nutty notes. Drinkable, but not Adnams’ best.

Bottle at Bishops Arms Marina, Helsingborg. 24th September 2011.
Pours light brown. Flowery dry aromas of herbs, violas, hops without any real sweetness to it. Smooth and clean taste with a nice herby hop flavour and some taffy-like malts.

500ml bottle purchased at Sainsburys Pimlico. Bubbly, off-white head that stays well on top of a amber coloured body with a reddish glow. Fruity-caramel to the nose. Light caramel malts in flavour mixed with mid-bitter hops. Half-dry, clean bitter ending. Refreshing and likable bitter (hotel room, London 29.07.2011).

Pours a dark copper colour with a thick off-white head. Aroma of toffee, nuts and some peppermint. Flavour of toffee, nuts, slightly toasted malts and grassy hops. Medium bodied, soft carbonation and a dry finish of toffee and some bitter hops. Quite basic really without any major flaws.
