COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Available (pasteurised) in 500ml bottles and 500ml cans.
A refreshing beer of real flavour - distinctively hoppy and dry with malt aromas. Delicious served cool.
Adnams brewery has stood in the heart of Southwold for over six hundred years and "Southwold Jack" appears on our beer labels. He continues to guard over our longest-serving beer brewed here in Southwold on the Suffolk coast -The Bitter. Bitter goes well with roast meats and fish cooked in batter as the clean bitterness cuts through the slightly fatty notes and hence keeps the palate refreshed. Our Bitter also makes a good aperitif.

Bottle. An red-amber body with medium-sized off-white head that leaves a bit of lacing. On the nose, a mixture of berry fruit, cider, faint toast. Taste is sweet with very light bitterness. There is caramel, cider, toasted nuts and finishes with light earthy bitterness. The flavor is a little thin in spots though. Medium body. Not bad.

500ml bottle pours amber in color with a small white head that leaves some surprisingly nice lacing on the glass. Aroma is light caramel with a hints of citrus and earthy notes. Taste is a citrus and earthy hop bitterness with an underlying caramel malty sweetness. Light to medium body with abundant carbonation. A fairly good bitter which has some balanced flavors and is worthy of a tasting.

500ml brown bottle. Orange brown pour, off white foam with a rocky top, not much lacing. Nose is malty, grainy, toasty. Taste has brown bread, light toffee, nice hop kick at the end, citrus and touch of grass. Light bodied, not too bubbly, dry finish, a bit of a minerally feel to it.. Decent bitter.

Aroma: The smell is sweet fresh bread with a dash of honey, ripe apples and pears. An orange, almost metallic finish.
Appearance: The ale is clear honey amber, a warm off-white head that settles slowly leaving very good lacing. Very small curtains.
Taste: Starts sweet, brown bread, brown sugar, a dash of oranges, then a straight bitter finish.
Palate: Medium carbonation, small foamy bubbles, soft and refreshing, a rather long dry finish.
Overall: Very session-able, a nice relaxing ale. The can bought in Sweden says 4.1% ABV.
Note: Can 500 ml. Reviewed 2011-12-12.

Bottle by 30 SEP 12. Nose with some mild swashes of candyish fruit. Dark copper-brown body with a rocky beige head. Taste is actually moderately dry though that distinctive fruitiness remains, there’s some subtle bitterness with faint roast and even chocolate. Dense carbonation and a silken smooth light-medium body.
