COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Available (pasteurised) in 500ml bottles and 500ml cans.
A refreshing beer of real flavour - distinctively hoppy and dry with malt aromas. Delicious served cool.
Adnams brewery has stood in the heart of Southwold for over six hundred years and "Southwold Jack" appears on our beer labels. He continues to guard over our longest-serving beer brewed here in Southwold on the Suffolk coast -The Bitter. Bitter goes well with roast meats and fish cooked in batter as the clean bitterness cuts through the slightly fatty notes and hence keeps the palate refreshed. Our Bitter also makes a good aperitif.

UPDATED: AUG 29, 2012 50 cl can. Great looking ale with a nice aroma. However, the palate is very weak and the beer is a too watery. Probably a good beer to have with food but when had on its own it feels a bit too weak and diluted. Not bad, it just lacks something.

500 ml bottle. Pours a mahogany brown with little head. Light aromas of malt, cereal, fruit and caramel. Bitter up front, with biscuit, raisin and malt flavors to follow. Bitter residual finish. Nice for this style.

Used to drinking this fresh in a pub, so wondered if the bottle would be any good. Yes, not bad at all. Fresh hoppy and fruity aroma, followed by crisp clean green hop flavours, with biscuity leafy finish.

Love the classy label and odd shaped bottle. Pours a light amber color. Aroma is sweet and malt accented. Lots of apple cider notes with a little bit of roasty character. Very light on the palate.

Pours a clear "bitter brown" with a half inch off white head. Fairly weak aroma, earthy with some malt sweetness. Taste is initially well balanced bitter hop and sweet malt, quickly gives to a distinctly earthy finish. A fair bitter.

bottle into a english pint glass. Color fist appeared light brown but showed more amber int he light, very clear and clean. Very fully bubbly head. Aroma is toast, burlap, touch of caramel. Taste starts malty sweet and berry. Finishes with some yeast and light bitter. Medium to full body. Tastes British.

500ml bottle. Pours a dark ruby brown with an inch of foamy tan head. Aroma is caramel malt, some toffee, something slightly vegetal (uh oh). Taste is bready malt, caramel, some yeast and a hint of sweetness. Slightly thin mouthfeel. Hops in the finish. Good for style but I prefer their Gunhill bitter which has more flavour for roughly the same strength of beer.

Pretty good brew. Poured at a good temperature with a nice sized, foamy, frothy, fluffy, cream-colored head that settles after a bit and some lace. Color is a clear amber copper. Aroma is beery, malt, hop, toffee, caramel, fruit. Flavor’s much like nose and bitter up front, then carbonic tang with a little malt sweet under. Body and carbonation are good. Finish is like flavor, of average length and is very drinkable.

Bottle from bar. Golden color, white head. Bitter taste with citrus, hops and malts. Dry bitter finish. Good brew.
