A refreshing beer of real flavour - distinctively hoppy and dry with malt aromas. Delicious served cool.
Adnams brewery has stood in the heart of Southwold for over six hundred years and "Southwold Jack" appears on our beer labels. He continues to guard over our longest-serving beer brewed here in Southwold on the Suffolk coast -The Bitter. Bitter goes well with roast meats and fish cooked in batter as the clean bitterness cuts through the slightly fatty notes and hence keeps the palate refreshed. Our Bitter also makes a good aperitif.

Aroma is slightly hoppy, gentle but nice. Pours with medium to a lot of head. More carbonation than usual. Quite pale with an interesting aftertaste that evolves in to a slightly honey-like sensation. Not quite well balanced but still ok.

A beer that ticks all the right "Bitter" boxes and is of a strength that allows one to partake as one would like. What’s not to like?

Strykzone (5208) - Wood River, Illinois, USA - OCT 5, 2014
Pint bottle. Dark amber with a little foam that does not last long. A malty aroma that also has fruit. Not big. The flavor begins spicy and there is some unpleasant sourness underneath. Floral and a bit of toffee. Bitterness is moderate. This is just ok.

50cl can from Systembolaget, Strömstad. Pours dark amber with an off-white head. Mild malty and caramelly aroma with fruity notes, noticable, but mildly hoppy and hits of dried fruits, herbs and spices. A bit sweet with malty and mildly hoppy flavours and a decently bitter finish. Not quite my thing, but fair enough.

Kautta linjan tasapainoinen olut. Puoliviileänä hyvät aromit. Hieno ulkonäkö, sopivan paksu ja omintakeinen.

Aurelius (4505) - Tallahassee, Florida, USA - AUG 20, 2014
Tapered 500cc bottle, decent label. Woody brown, cloudy, not much head. Toffy aroma with a bit of hoppiness and peat - a little earthy. Pleasantly bittter up front, a little woody, gets sweeter as it warms. Some, but not much, fruitiness. Bitter backend, light alcohol tones. Medium body, quaffable. Not a huge pint, but a good one. Beer Stop, Tallahassee.
