Available (pasteurised) in 500ml bottles and 500ml cans.
A refreshing beer of real flavour - distinctively hoppy and dry with malt aromas. Delicious served cool.
Adnams brewery has stood in the heart of Southwold for over six hundred years and "Southwold Jack" appears on our beer labels. He continues to guard over our longest-serving beer brewed here in Southwold on the Suffolk coast -The Bitter. Bitter goes well with roast meats and fish cooked in batter as the clean bitterness cuts through the slightly fatty notes and hence keeps the palate refreshed. Our Bitter also makes a good aperitif.

16.9 ounce bottle - $3.99 at Total Wine & More in Kennesaw, Georgia.

Appearance: Pours out a clear, deep amber-hued body with a foaming, short-lived, white head. A few spider web streaks of lace on the descent.

Smell: Toasted barley husks in the nose with an ill-defined sweet-scented trace to it, discarded fruit skins, and some earthy, woodsy English hops.

Taste: A taste of wet toast with a little, light caramel sweetness that quickly recedes away. A bit of apple skin, a bit of red grape skin. Earthy, woodsy, faintly herbal hop character with medium-light bitterness. Faint toastiness remaining in the predominately hoppy (though, even that’s still quite restrained)

Mouthfeel: Medium-light body. Falls a little shy of a medium level of carbonation for an overall soft mouthfeel.

Overall: Enjoyably subtle.

Bottle. This brewery continues to impress with yet another classy bitter,Crisp and sharp with a slightly malty finish. Bitters sometimes bore me-this one didn’t. Definitely worth checking out.

500ml Can - Copper coloured with a foamy head. Malty and fruity aroma with notes of caramel and raisins. Fruity and malty and taste with notes of raisins, sultanas, caramel, nuts and hops. Reasonably balanced and better than I was expecting.
