COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Available (pasteurised) in 500ml bottles and 500ml cans.
A refreshing beer of real flavour - distinctively hoppy and dry with malt aromas. Delicious served cool.
Adnams brewery has stood in the heart of Southwold for over six hundred years and "Southwold Jack" appears on our beer labels. He continues to guard over our longest-serving beer brewed here in Southwold on the Suffolk coast -The Bitter. Bitter goes well with roast meats and fish cooked in batter as the clean bitterness cuts through the slightly fatty notes and hence keeps the palate refreshed. Our Bitter also makes a good aperitif.

Looks great, deep burgundy body with a slight haze and a small tan head on top. Subdued bready aroma with some slightly dank hops. Pleasant honey and bread flavors are a little more interesting. The mouthfeel manages to be a bit too harsh with excessively dry finish, but at least the bitter lingering flavors are tasty. All-in-all decent example of the style, perhaps it loses something in the trip over the pond and sitting on the shelf.

Pours light hazy orange with a light brown film. Fruity caramel and a metallic hint on the nose. Spruce and light raisins also present. Bitter, toasted, a hint of caramel and acidic tones.

500ml can. Clear copper/ruby body with a medium white head. Bitter, fruity and mild. Quite a nice pub ale type of beer. //Rated via Beer Buddy

Donít understand the low ratings, unless it wasnít fresh. Enjoyable session (best) bitter-well balanced. Slight chocolate malt in the finish, some taste of fuggles hops-earthy & spicy. Hops not overdone, but to style. Nice yeast Esters-just enough.

Bottle: Pours clear, medium amber-brown with a lively beige head. Apple, toffee aroma. Taste is a bit oxidized...apple, caramel malt, slight leafy bitter, fruit taste. Not bad, but obviously not a fresh specimen.

Bottle - Amber in colour. Malty; toasty malts, caramel. Fruity; mildly citrus-orange. Hoppy; grassy hops. Sweetish malty fruity with a drying finish. OK. Easy drinking.

Shared 50cl bottle at Susieís party. Appearance - dark amber with a decent head. Nose - toffee, biscuits and some apples. Taste - more toffee apple and biscuits. Palate - medium bodied with a creamy texture and a fairly fresh finish. Overall - a decent bitter. So many of their beers are well executed but basically very similar.

N0t bad at all. Alth0ugh n0t excepti0nal, itís the kind f brew that I c0uld drink vast quantities 0f. It has an orange/amber b0dy with a m0dest head, but pr0vides s0me nice lacew0rk. It has a fresh white bread crust ar0ma, a dash 0f caramel, and a t0uch 0f herbs and lem0n. The taste is reflective 0f the n0se with a bit m0re herbal character and a slight dry bitterness that lingers int0 the finish. Nice. I wish it went f0r less here.

The best thing with this beer is itís label, that I like a lot. It has a oily taste and feels oily in the mouth. It does not have much of a aroma. Sorry you guys, but I did not enjoy this one.
