COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Available (pasteurised) in 500ml bottles and 500ml cans.
A refreshing beer of real flavour - distinctively hoppy and dry with malt aromas. Delicious served cool.
Adnams brewery has stood in the heart of Southwold for over six hundred years and "Southwold Jack" appears on our beer labels. He continues to guard over our longest-serving beer brewed here in Southwold on the Suffolk coast -The Bitter. Bitter goes well with roast meats and fish cooked in batter as the clean bitterness cuts through the slightly fatty notes and hence keeps the palate refreshed. Our Bitter also makes a good aperitif.

Bottle: Pours clear, medium amber-brown with a lively beige head. Apple, toffee aroma. Taste is a bit oxidized...apple, caramel malt, slight leafy bitter, fruit taste. Not bad, but obviously not a fresh specimen.

Bottle - Amber in colour. Malty; toasty malts, caramel. Fruity; mildly citrus-orange. Hoppy; grassy hops. Sweetish malty fruity with a drying finish. OK. Easy drinking.

Shared 50cl bottle at Susie’s party. Appearance - dark amber with a decent head. Nose - toffee, biscuits and some apples. Taste - more toffee apple and biscuits. Palate - medium bodied with a creamy texture and a fairly fresh finish. Overall - a decent bitter. So many of their beers are well executed but basically very similar.

N0t bad at all. Alth0ugh n0t excepti0nal, it’s the kind f brew that I c0uld drink vast quantities 0f. It has an orange/amber b0dy with a m0dest head, but pr0vides s0me nice lacew0rk. It has a fresh white bread crust ar0ma, a dash 0f caramel, and a t0uch 0f herbs and lem0n. The taste is reflective 0f the n0se with a bit m0re herbal character and a slight dry bitterness that lingers int0 the finish. Nice. I wish it went f0r less here.

The best thing with this beer is it’s label, that I like a lot. It has a oily taste and feels oily in the mouth. It does not have much of a aroma. Sorry you guys, but I did not enjoy this one.

Bottle split with Pedro. Pours a clean amber with fluffy, lasting beige head and webbed lace. Nose of fruit, apples, floral hop. Moderate to light bitterness, medium body. Very fruity and sweet.

Aroma - the aroma is strictly caramel malt Appearance - body is caramel colored amber; liquid is the slightest bit hazy; and the white head setups about 1/4" and fades quickly, leaving a thin layer of foam on top of the body. Taste - the malt is a little caramel, slightly nutty, and with very lean spiced hops. It is also rather thin, for a watery quality. Palate - the body is light; the texture thin and watery; the carbonation is below average; the finish is really wet and just slightly bitter, the spiced bitterness does hang on for a lengthy period

Pretty simple but enjoyable bitter with very earthy flavours and pretty malty on the palate. Wouldn’t go out of my way to drink it but pleasant enough.
