COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A refreshing beer of real flavour - distinctively hoppy and dry with malt aromas. Delicious served cool. Adnams brewery has stood in the heart of Southwold for over six hundred years and "Southwold Jack" appears on our beer labels. He continues to guard over our longest-serving beer brewed here in Southwold on the Suffolk coast -The Bitter. Bitter goes well with roast meats and fish cooked in batter as the clean bitterness cuts through the slightly fatty notes and hence keeps the palate refreshed. Our Bitter also makes a good aperitif. Available (pasteurised) in 500ml bottles and 500ml cans.

Bottle from Saintsbury’s. Light to mid-brown with a bit of off-white head. Smells of sulphur, raw grain, some floral notes and a little bit of sick. Taste is bitter and a little bit acrid. Very bitter finish. Not a great beer and not a patch on the cask.

Pours a clear orange/amber with a nice rocky off white head. Floral, grassy aroma. Taste is sweet caramel malt, buttered biscuits and some grassiness. Smooth and easy drinking, with just a touch of hop bitterness. Nice, traditional bitter.

33 cl, bottled. Pours clear gold with a decent white head. Aroma: Some malt, nuts. Mildly hops, spices. Taste: Medium sweet, toffee, malty characters. Yeasty tones! I like that. Palate: Quite light body, near average carbonation. Easy to drink. Some minimal bitterness. Decent.

From the bottle it pours a clear amber/brown with a tan head. The smell is fruit, caramel, bread. The taste is crisp up front, toasted malt, caramel, fruit ending fairly bitter and dry. Light in body with rather active carbonation.
