COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Available (pasteurised) in 500ml bottles and 500ml cans.
A refreshing beer of real flavour - distinctively hoppy and dry with malt aromas. Delicious served cool.
Adnams brewery has stood in the heart of Southwold for over six hundred years and "Southwold Jack" appears on our beer labels. He continues to guard over our longest-serving beer brewed here in Southwold on the Suffolk coast -The Bitter. Bitter goes well with roast meats and fish cooked in batter as the clean bitterness cuts through the slightly fatty notes and hence keeps the palate refreshed. Our Bitter also makes a good aperitif.

Bottle by 30 SEP 12. Nose with some mild swashes of candyish fruit. Dark copper-brown body with a rocky beige head. Taste is actually moderately dry though that distinctive fruitiness remains, there’s some subtle bitterness with faint roast and even chocolate. Dense carbonation and a silken smooth light-medium body.

Tasted from brown pint bottle into nonic pint glass. Cool graphic design. Poured a gorgeous reddish copper color with chill haze and persistent thin beige head and lace. Aromas of sweet malts, caramelized brown sugar, apricots, raisins, citrusy hops and faint cider. Flavor was mellow maltiness with tangy hops balance (hoppier as it warmed), toffee, fruit again, some freshly-baked brown bread. Light-medium body, average carbonation, nicely "digestive," drinkable and simply delicious in an understated way. A very nice pint of bitter, even from the bottle. I like Newcastle, I like their Founders Ale even more, but this kicks the crap out of both.

Clear amber/mahogany brown with a smallish head and moderate lace. Toasted malt aromas with gentle hops. Flavors are very modest, mostly chewy biscuity malt with a noticeable hops bitterness kick. Light to medium body, watery mouthfeel, modest carbonation, and a lingering bitterness in the finish.

Pours pale dark brown with a thin white head. Aroma is malty and very slightly fruity. Bitter taste up front with a wet middle and a dry finish. Tastes soft and malty. Quite a decent beer, Adnams never disappoints!

UPDATED: AUG 29, 2012 50 cl can. Great looking ale with a nice aroma. However, the palate is very weak and the beer is a too watery. Probably a good beer to have with food but when had on its own it feels a bit too weak and diluted. Not bad, it just lacks something.

Bottle purchased at BevMo in Redding, CA. THE POUR / APPEARANCE: Pours a medium-dark mahogany brown with a tan colored head. The head has good retention, great Brussels lace. AROMA / BOUQUET: Malty / Cereal, good English hops aroma that has some pineyness to it- subtle but good. TASTE: medium hop bitterness, with a subtle maltiness. PALATE: Medium bodied, with a hoppy dryness in the finish. OVERALL: It’s a good beer, in my opinion there are better English bitters out there, but this is a good solid example of the style.

500 ml bottle. Pours a mahogany brown with little head. Light aromas of malt, cereal, fruit and caramel. Bitter up front, with biscuit, raisin and malt flavors to follow. Bitter residual finish. Nice for this style.

Used to drinking this fresh in a pub, so wondered if the bottle would be any good. Yes, not bad at all. Fresh hoppy and fruity aroma, followed by crisp clean green hop flavours, with biscuity leafy finish.

Love the classy label and odd shaped bottle. Pours a light amber color. Aroma is sweet and malt accented. Lots of apple cider notes with a little bit of roasty character. Very light on the palate.
