COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Southwold Jack is one of Adnams’ oldest & most loyal figureheads, that’s why we’ve chosen him to be the icon for one of our most famous beers. Local legend has it he was once a young soldier from the Wars of the Roses and today he sits on the wall of our brewery guarding us from harm.
Southwold Jack – An icon of Southwold, a protector of Adnams.

Bottled, 500ml from Sainsbury’s, Banbury. Amber with white head. Light, malty beer, some pasteurisation note a hint of wet carboard, but nicely bitter with a hint of peppery, leafy hop. All a little understated, but reasonable enough.

500ml bottle. Pours dark amber with a medium head. Aroma is bready malt, a little yeast and dried fruit. Taste is bready malt throughout with a little spice and a medium bitter finish.

Clear dark amber with a toffee colored head and nice horizontal streaks of lace. Basically an IPA with floral, rather than piney, hops. Once the flavor begins (dry malt and bitters), it continues to the finish. The finsih fades quickly and nicely. Good moderate brew.

Colour of copper. White head. Fruits, caramel, pines and bitterness. Just a bit sweet and something I will buy again.

Elwood (1965) - Leesburg, Virginia, USA - MAY 17, 2012
Serving: 500 ml. bottle from State Line Liquors. It pours a nice red color with a small, off white head. The nose has lots of bready malt, light caramel, and a whiff of hops. The flavor has a little butter, a lingering breadiness, and a light, papery hop balance. Not all that sweet on the tongue which is nice. Medium bodied with average carbonation and a somewhat dry finish.

Karamellfärgad med tämligen stor skumkrona. Svag smak (end. 4,1%), men behaglig eftersmak (lots of toffe!) .

Bottled. Poured clear, medium amber with a nice off-white head. The aroma picked up sweet, toasty bread and fruity notes, with earthy and oaky accents.. fresh and very good for the style. The flavor found similar stuff.. bready notes, wet grains, and a pinch of honey at the core.. earthy and herbal bitterness around.. finished very dry, with lightly-degraded hops and simple bready malts. Lighter-bodied with a decent flow through the palate.. moderate bitterness.. good example of a style I don’t particularly care for.

500mL bottle. Ruby color, off-white head. Aroma of bitter grass and malt. Tastes of fresh rye bread, baking yeast, bitter wooded hops. A well done English Bitter. Lightly carbonated. (3328)

Brown 500ml bottle with a 4.5% Bitter inside, best before 16th July 2009, drank on 22nd April 2009. Poured (twice) into a La Chouffe stemmed tulip shaped glass. Lovely, lovely, lovely. Deep amber body with a very good, rich and high tanned head. The beer had a teak wood sort of hue to it, clear and wholesome looking too. Very different to the cask version and a lot stronger in alcohol. The aroma, taste and mouthfeel just don’t match up and why should they, this is obviuosly a completely different beer. Hops, barley and nuts in the aroma, along with some malt bread and toasted brown bread. The beer just tastes right, good bitter bite and a hoppy aftertaste, a classic British Bitter. Adnams are a favourite of mine and this is the sort of product that highlights why. A joy to hold and drink!

Bottle. Poured clear reddish brown color with an average frothy off-white head that lasted with good lacing. Moderate sweet malt aroma. Medium body with a slick texture and soft carbonation. Medium bitters sweet flavor with a medium bitters sweet finish of moderate duration. Solid interesting beer.
