Cask. At The Red Lion, Crown Passage off Pall Mall, London. This was in terrific shape - and I was gasping for a pint, so happily met! Clear copper pour with a decent creamy beige lasting head (not the dreaded sparkler?! - I didn’t have the heart to ask). Solid aroma of dry floral hops and light roast caramel / cereal malt - nice a bitter with a mellowing sweetness to it. The taste followed, simple, refreshing, a good grainy malt / dry floral and lightly funky hop bitterness struck a decent balance - nice light but chewy mouthfeel, more than faint astringency leading to a medium-length softly dry and lightly bitter finish - what a nice quencher on a beautiful afternoon walking through St. James’ Park.

Kings Head, Upper St, London N1. Not quite clear in the glass, small head, good lacing. Good strong hops, little bit of spice and citrus. Very long dry hop after taste. I like this beer, its very dry and holds the flavour well.

Cask @ The Nag’s Head. The pour’s a medium amber color with a small head. The nose is light autumn harvest fruits, some toasty brown bread, strawberry. The taste is light sweet malts, more brown bread and light fruits. A bit of wood on the lightly dry finish. Light body, soft. Conservative, but well presented flavors. I liked this. Very good for what it is.

A good drinking beer, that pours a clear amber with a white head. A nice beer to go along with some friends.

Amber-brown, served in the Town Wall Tavern, Coventry with a 1cm thick white head - not normal, IIRC; plenty of hops straight off the bat; malty, with a thick mouthfeel for the abv; bitter, fairly dry finish; consistently good lower strength bitter in my experience

Cask at the Castle Inn, Cambridge. Copper coloured pour with a thin bubbly white head. Malty aroma leading to a nice balanced malty bitter taste which had ever so slightly metallic notes. A classic English bitter. I like it, but many wont as they are looking for non-session beers, hence the occasional low rating.

Cask in Wentworth Hotel, Aldebrough. Colour is standard brown bitter. Nose is fruity English hops, grain and atypical caramel malt. Taste is caramel malt, fruity hops and bit of spiciness from hops. Very solid, well balanced English bitter.
