3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle from Whole Foods in Louisville - Pours amber with a thin quickly receding tan head. Full to heavy bodied with soft carbonation. Notes of thick chewy malt, leather, alcohol, wine, oak, pepper. Very nice, not overly sweet, restrained hop notes. A nice sipper.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
It puts dark nutty brown with a dense tan head. The aroma has figs, dates, deep toasted malt, molasses and a touch of honey. It has a fairly full rich body with a modest amount of carbonation. The taste starts like the aroma with but with crackers and earthy hops. The finish has heavier molasses. Pretty good.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
bottle @ Party Source / Bellevue KY --- Aroma of malt and faint cherry. Opaque black/brown color, beige head that drops to a cover, curtain of lace. Taste is heavy malt that adds light carbonation and dried fruitcake fruit as it moves to a lingering mild hop and fruit finish. Heavy in the stomach, which drops it a notch, thick and chewy, not particularly complex.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 14/20
2012 bottle poured into a brandy snifter. 11.2 ounce bottle. The beer is a dark brown to ruby color with a beige head of foam that dissipates down to a thin cap. The aroma has dark fruits, leather, and some cooked cherry. Tastes like warm cooked cherries. Interesting. The taste also has some bitterness in there as well, that gets a touch medicinal, but it doesnt detract too much. Bigger bodied beer with medium carbonation. The bitterness may actually me some oxidation coming through in a weird way. Iím getting some papery notes.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Pours a clear dark ruby/brown with a decent light tan head. Aroma is licorice and blueberries. Taste is roasted malt, brown sugar, molasses, coffee, and a bit of licorice. Bitterness from the roasted barley and hops comes through at the end. ABV pretty well hidden, but there is some warmth after the swallow. Quality barleywine.

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
2012 Bottle, shared by me... in my dining room... just now.
Pours a dark reddish brown with a big tan head and nice lacing on the glass.
Aroma is mild, itís got some cooked fruit, some nuttiness, & a little bit of toffee. Sort of metallic and a touch oxidized, although no moreso than any other time Iíve tried this beer.
The flavor is plesant, itís got some baking spice and apple rind... some cooked fruit, some leafiness & a reasonably reserved sweetness. The alcohol is pronounced but the character suits the beer well & there is a more pronounced nuttiness the warmer the beer gets. I donít catch a ton of oxidive notes in the flavor, at least not as much as I catch in the aroma.
This lil guy has been in a cool dark basment more or less untouched since right about the time it hit shelves in the state so 2 or 3 years ago. Iíve had samples of this beer that are from bottles that were verifiably not kept under such conditions & even a year ago they were terrible. This isnít the best Barley Wine Iíve had by a long shot, but Iím surprised given all the other samplings of this vintage that this was as good as it is.

4.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 19/20
11.2oz longneck brown bottle into a snifter goblet, 2012 vintage, at 3 years old this is possibly at its peak. It poured an opaque dark brown colour, reddish when held to the light, beige foam, thin but persistent layer of spritzy little bubbles, swirling would kick-up a new head each time, some fine lace. Beautiful example of lengthy bottle-conditioning. Mild but exquisite aromas of sweet cereal grains, challah bread, toast, flowery/earthy hops blending with alcoholic vapors to form a pleasant perfume. Bolder flavours: dextrine-y malt sweetness, rich melanoidins, caramel, toffee, molasses, cacao nibs, breakfast coffee, raisins, tart cherries, black plums, blackberries, raspberries, currants, raisins, nuts. Like Russian Brown Bread or a brandy-soaked Trappist fruitcake. Port wine tannins. Medium body (more highly-attenuated than youíd expect, thanks to the inimitable dual-strain yeast), low carbonation, well-rounded mouthfeel. Some residual sweetness but not sticky. Warming alcohol but no hot fusels. Crazy complex aftertaste. Profoundly delicious, a rare masterpiece. Barkeep, another please!

Bottle sample at a tasting at Beer and Beyond, Tel Aviv. Clear deep brownish with small beige head. Aroma of candy, notes of bubblegum and marshmallow, a bit woody, some liqueur, butterscotch and honey. Flavor of raisin and milk chocolate, very alcoholic, notes of liqueur, some prune, moderate bitterness and sweetness, some honey. Moderate carbonation, medium to full-bodied.
