Bottle from Whole Foods in Louisville - Pours amber with a thin quickly receding tan head. Full to heavy bodied with soft carbonation. Notes of thick chewy malt, leather, alcohol, wine, oak, pepper. Very nice, not overly sweet, restrained hop notes. A nice sipper.

Bottle. Dark brown with amber highlights. A beige head leaves some lacing. I smell rich dark fruit and toffee. I taste raisins, toffee, huge malts, and alcohol to begin. Towards the finish I get vinous notes. Light harshness. Really easy to drink considering the ABV.

Bottle sample at a tasting at the Beer & Beyond shop. Thanks zvikar. 2012 bottle. murky dark brown, beige wave. A little vinous, raisins, some chocolate aroma. Alcoholic, liquor-like taste. Full-bodied, no carbonation, long, lingering, liquor finish.

Deep, clear, ruby brown. Quickly-collapsing tan head. Standard UK 11.2oz bottle, good whisky-style label. Fruity aroma (golden raisins, dates, that sort of thing) with some woody astringency.. Very slightly medicinal up front, lightly-to-moderately sweet, alcohol bitterness, warming. Oily mouthfeel, peppery on the backend. Lots going on in here, comes together fairly harmoniously. Beer stop, Tallahassee.

Rich n fruity all the way. Very very English with an almost total lack of hops. Sweet, but not overly so. Also very dark and smooth...like a barleywine wee heavy hybrid. Nice.

Bottle sample at a tasting at the Beer & Beyond shop. Thanks zvikar. 2012 bottle. Deep reddish amber-brown. Aroma of plums, raisins, malt, caramel, sherry and a bit of alcohol. Sweet boozy flavor with malt, caramel, sherry and dark fruits. Slightly syrupy.

Hazy chestnut pour with a 1 finger, creamy tan head. tons of apple and toffee in the aroma as well as some caramel, dark fruit fruity and herbal hops. Flavor is dark caramel, toffee, molasses, over ripe apple, bready and fruity yeast, herbal hops and earthiness to the finish. Medium body, syrupy to creamy feel and medium carbonation. Good, solid Barley Wine. I think it was $6.50/330ml bottle, though, pretty steep.

From the 2012 batch. Chestnut-mahogany brown pour with a small tan head. The nose brings out a pungent sweet barley malt character with some molasses and earthy hops. No booze but it has mellowed in two years. Medium body. Good sweet malt flavor up front followed by a more probing hop bitterness that coats my tongue with earth and raisins. This is exactly at the age I like my barleywines. A couple years in to maintain the basic character but not too biting on the palate.

[Bottle (11.2oz) shared with HogTownHarry & biegaman -- c/o HogTownHarry] Pours a dark ruby with a spare tan head -- almost oily looking. Aroma is a bit sugary and candy-like along with some alcohol and dark fruit. Flavour is sugary and fruity along with some alcohol, a hint of paper and some hops. Long bitter finish. Average bodied. Good, not great.

330ml bottle shared with blankboy and biegaman. Deep brown-red pour, small bubbly off-white head. Aroma - I get figs, alcohol and tons of candy necklace. Taste light roast, fruit, candy, alcohol, slightly floral - building bitterness in the finish. Slick, sweet, interesting, could not drink a lot of it.

Bottled. Poured very deep brown with a creamy, sticky beige head. The aroma picked up spicy dark fruits, figs, and licorice with touches of vanilla and molasses.. peppery and a bit woody on the edges. The flavor found more licorice and spiced dark fruits at the core, with heavier spice (pepper and anise primarily) around.. finished a touch sharp, but with tasty stuff. Heavier-bodied with creamy, filling carbonation.. a little sweet at times, and a little rough at the finish, but otherwise some very good stuff.
