Bottle from Vika enjoyed at home
Dark dark brown, beige head. Smells of butter, burnt caramel and popcorn. Taste is super malty, tons of sweetness. Some unwanted malt bitterness as well, it tastes something burned to long. Full malt body, oily feel, but not anything that makes up for the bad things in this beer. Totally this is just a beer i will never try again, sorry

330ml bottle, dated 2009. Pours a dark amber hue with minimal head. Notes of vanilla and burnt toast. Deep caramel taste with vanilla and a hint of smoke. Just lacking a bit of complexity, and some more alcohol heat would have been welcome.

12.02.2012. 0,33l Bottle. Vintage 2009. Vinmonopolet Bergen - Valkendorfsgate. Dark brown colour with a small tan head. Rich malty aroma with dark roasted malts. Rich to medium body. Not as strong as expected for a Barley wine. Flavour is roasted dark malt, sweetness and some soft bitterness. At the end there is some burnt sugar or something. Very soft and smooth beer.

Dark amber body, close to brown, with a puny little light-light-brown head that doesn’t lace the glass at all. The aroma is much more interesting: it’s roasted, caramel, raisin, port wine, spices, liquorice and faint hints of tobacco. The taste is heavy sweet with just a light plus bitterness in the long-lasting finish. Plenty of flavours that follow the aroma, but with additional brown sugar, cough syrup and slightly overripe dark fruits. The sweet port wine notes are close to sherry. Pleasant mouthfeel. An interesting and complex ale, but maybe a bit unfocused and noisy, it’s like the brewers have tried to fit too much into this little bottle.

Bottle 33 cl. Courtesy of madmitch76. Clear orangey brown with a small, creamy off-white head leaving laces. Oxidized aroma, plenty of prunes and overripe plums. Quite full-bodied, toffee, maple syrup and a whiff of licorice. Some warming alcohol in the finish. Nice and pleasant. 310112

Very dark brown colour, mahogany. Small off-white head. Rich in aroma, there’s wood and overripe fruits. Taste is also powerful, some sweetness and quite bitter towards the end. I much prefer this to most barley wines I’ve tasted due to the subdued sweetness. (Bottle)

Rune (8173) - Tromsø, NORWAY - JAN 19, 2012
330ml bottle conditioned ale, vintage 2009, brought back home from Vinmonopolet Vika, Oslo. Small dimples, decent off-white head. Deep mahogany coloured body with ruby highlights. No lace. Dark malty smell with a bite of chocolate and ashy dryness. Comprehensive taste character that contains ripe and dried fruits supplied by caramel malts, well blended. Mid-sweet, malty ending. Medium bodied. Nice winter warmer (shared with Finn, Tromsø 12.01.2012).

Åpgang 2009. Flaske 0,33l spandert av og delt med Rune på seanse hjemme hos ham 12 Jan 12. Mørkebrun. Høyt, litt farget skum som fester seg til glasset. Innholdsrik fruktig aroma. Sherrypreg. Myk munnfølelse. Smaken er sammensatt: Nøtter & frukt. Søt bitter ettersmak. Rett og slett et godt dessert-/koseøl.
