Waiting for the UFOs and sipping on an unashamedly strong winter warmer. Mahogany with thin brown skiff. Sort of a flat unspiced Christmas cake scent. More spice in the flavour and dark bready molasses notes. Let it warm and a nice earth and roots bitterness emerges.

Bottle. Pleasant, winter aley nose with liquored raisins, some fig and a hint of nutmeggy spice. Pours a deep ruby brown with little to no head. Flavour is fruity, vineous, and underpinned by a deeply sweet malt. Finish is long and still sweet but not to the point of being cloying. A very nice winter ale.

Bottle at tuulensuu, tampere. Red-darkbrown colo with light brown head. Aroma of rye bread, malts, sweetness. Fantastic balanced taste of malts, licorice, rye bread, some hops, some alcohol, but not officious.

[330ml bottle - 2010 vintage - from Beers of Europe] Mahogany with a short-lived beige head and a light fizz. Strongly alcoholic on the nose and in the month. Raisins and plum at first, with a hint of chocolate. Dry, dusty roasted barley in the slightly smoky finish. It’s alright, but the alcohol is too obvious and the dry malt doesn’t really go. Not as good as I hoped. c9

A good typical British styled Barley wine with big raisin and toffee biscuity notes. The pours is a dark brazen amber with a bit of translucence. The head is a bit porous and fluffy with a coloration of light tan. The nose has a bit of booze up front with a big caramelized malt, big candy sweetness with prunes and raisins abundant. The flavor is very fruity in the middle with a mild roast and mild bitterness on the finish. Sweet malts throughout the flavor profile with mostly toffee and biscuit notes coming through. overall, very fine beer.

330ml bottle pours a dark brown color with a small light beige head that leaves only small traces of lacing. Aroma is of dark fruits with roasty notes. Taste is a dark chocolate and fruity sweetness with a light hop bitterness. Medium bodied with light carbonation. A good representation of the style and recommended.

Bottle: Clear, deep ruby-amber coloured, small and stable off-white foamy layer, moderate sweetish-fruity (dried fruits, what else) and caramelly nose, some bready and some hoppy aromas underneath; moderate to robust bitter-sweet flavour, medium to full bodied; delicate traces of alcohol in the fruity (raisins) and bitter finish. Not really exciting, but quite nice....
