2012 vintage: Glassy deep red color; a still liquid, with not a lot of head. Aroma is sugary sweet, with heavy toffee, sweet raisin and a sour cherry. Very "English," with a touch of brown sugar. The flavor is extremely sweet, almost saccharine, with stone fruits that are reminiscent of an Abbey Ale (but with none of the Belgian funk). Has an astringent, metallic finish (like licking a battery) that unusually offsets the sweetness. Although the feel is a little slick/oily on the outside, it has a rather chunky, grainy interior. The finish is sour cherry too. It gives a heckuva nice buzz right off the bat too. It’s a little young right now, but I’ll bet it ages really nicely. Closer to a winter ale than a barleywine proper.

bouteille 33cl.

Bottle 0,33L. Dark, mahagony red colour with small light brown head, that quickly falls into a crown. Biscuits malt aroma with some caramel and notes of raisins and prunes, vanilla and (not overhelming) alcohol. Moderate bitter taste with dark fruit note. Medium to full body, oily structure, soft carbonation and nice warm feeling.

330ml brown bottle. 2011 vintage. Pours deep brown, some ruby highlights. Small and thin tan cap. Nose is malty, raisiny, touch of brown sugar. Taste has dark chocolatey malt, slight fruity note, raisin, toffee, light roast. Finishes with some hop bitterness and a touch roast and chocolate. Medium bodied, medium carbonation. Lots of rich malts, rather roasty for the style, but enjoyable.

Big thanks to sebletitje for this beer that has been on my “wants” list for years, cheers Sebastian! The 33cl bottle pours clear deep copper with thin gold hues and supporting a thin light tan head of foam. The aroma offers up sweet malty sweetness, sweet prunes and ripe cherries as well as whiffs of kettle caramelization. The taste is similar with sweet malts and sweet caramel candy mixing with cherries, prunes and raisins. It gets a little thinner toward the finish as well as picking up a mineral like sensation.

Kita (1466) - Koper, SLOVENIA - MAR 13, 2013
Bottled, 0.33l. Clear ruby brown color and small creamy brownish head. Aroma of rich biscuity and toasted malt, caramel, dry fruits and fruity hops. Taste starts rich and sweet malty with biscuity and toasty notes, then followed by dark fruits. Mouthfeel is very warming, maybe a bit out of balance with strong and long bitter aftertaste. Full body, thick texture and lively carbonation in palate. More than enjoyed it...

Pours copper color with a small head. Aroma of ripe fruits, toffee, caramel malts and some hops. Flavor of caramel malts, ripe fruits, hay, toffee and some resin. A bit too grassy for my taste.
