3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Dark amber body, close to brown, with a puny little light-light-brown head that doesn’t lace the glass at all. The aroma is much more interesting: it’s roasted, caramel, raisin, port wine, spices, liquorice and faint hints of tobacco. The taste is heavy sweet with just a light plus bitterness in the long-lasting finish. Plenty of flavours that follow the aroma, but with additional brown sugar, cough syrup and slightly overripe dark fruits. The sweet port wine notes are close to sherry. Pleasant mouthfeel. An interesting and complex ale, but maybe a bit unfocused and noisy, it’s like the brewers have tried to fit too much into this little bottle.
[33 cl bottle, enjoyed 11 months before BB date, from Vinmonopolet Vika, Oslo]

4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Very dark brown colour, mahogany. Small off-white head. Rich in aroma, there’s wood and overripe fruits. Taste is also powerful, some sweetness and quite bitter towards the end. I much prefer this to most barley wines I’ve tasted due to the subdued sweetness. (Bottle)

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Åpgang 2009. Flaske 0,33l spandert av og delt med Rune på seanse hjemme hos ham 12 Jan 12. Mørkebrun. Høyt, litt farget skum som fester seg til glasset. Innholdsrik fruktig aroma. Sherrypreg. Myk munnfølelse. Smaken er sammensatt: Nøtter & frukt. Søt bitter ettersmak. Rett og slett et godt dessert-/koseøl.

3.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Medium beige head. Barely translucent clear dark brown body with
light carbonation. Earthy salty licorice aroma with wooden soy
sauce notes. Dry-sweet honey and linoleum taste with chocolatey
resiny notes. Mid-bodied. Mild, soft, rounded mouthfeel.
Dryish linoleum, chocolatey and honey aftertaste with long
lingering resiny, salty cardamom notes. Long, lingering, hops,
honey, and cocoa finish. Amazingly drinkable, and well
balanced. (0.33l bottle, wine monopoly, Vika, Oslo. Vintage 2009.)
