330 ml bottle @ Gastropub Tuulensuu, Tampere.
Pours a dark reddish brown colour with a small beige foamy head. Aroma of dark dry fruits and caramel. Flavour of toasted malts, nuts, citrus and dried fruits. Medium bodied with a slick mouthfeel. Sugary, malty and warming finish. Easy barley wine.

Palme (1200) - Bergen, NORWAY - APR 4, 2011
0.33l bottle @ Henrik, Bergen. This is a near black bodied beer with a side-sticking off-white head. The first aroma revealed is soy-sauce combined with coffee, confect chocolate and a almost fish-stocky saltiness. This is full-bodied with moderate to low carbonation. Tastes first burned caramel and quite sweet. Then some dark fruits, that I just can’t put my finger tingles the tongue before it switches to a coffee-kicking aftertaste that lasts for ever. The coffee aftertaste is combined with a nice bitterness making this quite good.

Bottle @ Henrik, Bergen. Near-black, deep brown body, tiny beige head. Nose is toffee, booze, caramel, roasted malts and hints of dates and figs. Nice. Taste is more roasty, with burnt toast and caramelized sugars coming forth early. Then, some more smokey, whiskey-like tones appears towards the finish. Some figs and dates also, along the way in the aftertaste. A bit harsh on the palate sometimes but it’s okay as this is a winter warmer more than anything else. Overall, I’d say this is much more in the neighborhood of an English strong ale or an old ale than the barley wine it supposedly is, but hey - I guess it’s a the lower end of the ABV spectrum, where genres overlap easier. Regardless, this is a fine beer.

2009 Bottle. Dark coppery red pour with a very short white head that doesn’t last long. Aroma is rich, malty and fruity with notes of rum, raisins, vanilla, port, chocolate, molasses and cherries. Flavour just about mirrors the aroma although the sweetness is tempered by the hop bitterness, which is surprisingly prominent. Light, slick mouthfeel with low carbonation and a lengthy bitter finish. A real winter warmer of a barley wine, and although the booze is quite noticeable, it’s really quite sessionable.

2009 bottle. Dark reddish brown with a beige head that fades to a coat then retreats to the rim. Rich fruity aroma of prunes, raisins and toffee. Moderately syrupy. The rich fruit and toffee sweetness is there, but there’s also some fairly gentle roasted bitterness and firm biscuit. Hop bitterness emerges at the finish and lingers longer with each sip. Alcohol doesn’t exactly stick out, but it feels considerably stronger than 7.2%. Filling, warming and very nicely balanced.

Pours dark brown with a small quickly fading head. Nose shows loads of rich syrupy malt, plenty of caramel, golden syrup and treacle in there. Similar rich malty flavours and oxidised character. A little alcohol mixes with a mild but sharp bitterness to counter the sweetness. Nice creamy carbonation and slick body. Good for sipping, very rich and sweet though.

(330ml ), As you swrill the goblet tiny hurricanes of booze covered raisin..wealthy malts.....smoky covered toffee bombard the air. A lifeless dark glass of evil ruby sits...... rivers of toffee rich malts,,raisins soaked in roastiness all in cloying streams.
