330mL bottle, pours a dark amber with a small beige head. Aroma of toasted nuts, toffee, dark fruits. Flavour of toffee, toasted nuts, and some odd minty notes. Doesn’t strike me anywhere near as a barley wine, more like an English winter ale. Pleasant flavours and quite enjoyable. Decent.

Pours a dark reddish brown colour with a small beige foamy head. Aroma of dark dry fruits and caramel. Flavour of toasted malts, nuts, citrus and dried fruits. Medium bodied with a slick mouthfeel. Sugary, malty and warming finish. Easy barley wine.

Cask@Burton Winter Beer Festival 2006. Brownish black beer with a lighly malty aroma and a malty, thick flavour with a slightly dry finish. Overall a nice malty/sweet beer.

hughie (3994) - Bedford, Bedfordshire, ENGLAND - DEC 9, 2006
Cask at Wellington Arms, Bedford. Very dark amber-brown. Sweet malt aroma with some fruit, possibly blackcurrant. Sweet, almost cloying honeyed taste with golden syrup and the thick spoonfuls of medicinal malt I was made to eat as a child. Very slight bitterness plus a lot of alcohol. A decent warming winter potion, but I wouldn’t want a session on this. Especially as it cost me over three quid for a pint.

Bottle: On the label it says best before 11-97, so whatever year that makes it. Aroma of wine, vinegar, chocolate, and a little tartness. Pours a dark reddish-brown with lots of sediment. Small off-white head. Not a lot of flavor up front. Has a vinuous, caramel, chocolate, and light apple finish. Thanks to Styles.
