Åpgang 2009. Flaske 0,33l spandert av og delt med Rune på seanse hjemme hos ham 12 Jan 12. Mørkebrun. Høyt, litt farget skum som fester seg til glasset. Innholdsrik fruktig aroma. Sherrypreg. Myk munnfølelse. Smaken er sammensatt: Nøtter & frukt. Søt bitter ettersmak. Rett og slett et godt dessert-/koseøl.

Aug 2006, from BA: Half pints only please, this is heavy stuff. I have this as my night-cap when in Southwold, if it is available, which it often isn’t. The ’Sole Bay Inn’ can usually be trusted to have some, it is across the green from the brewery. Dark and unforgiving, this rich, fruity beer is ideal as the last one before walking along the seafront and to bed. It has an aroma which brings both malt and hops together with the overtones of fresh fruits, you know you have a monster of a beer in your hand, thats for sure. This update is from August Bank Holiday 2006. This Christmas Pudding of a beer is getting better and better. The Landlord at The Sole Bay Inn told me he always keeps two 9 Gallon Barrels from Christmas for this weekend (August Bank Holiday), I’m glad he does! One sad note though, the dray horses that used to deliver in Southwold have been retired and will not be replaced. The horses now play in fields around the town, a packed share holders meeting was ensured they would have a long retiremnet and not be sold off to a knackers yard!

(bottle, 33cl) Clear, copper to dark amber colour with a beige medium-sized foamy head. Leathery and slightly salty (cara-)malty aroma with hints of plums (Japanese choya) and English hops. Mildly sweet and bitter flavour, medium bodied with a calm carbonation. Cara-malty taste with spicy notes of liquorice, traces of leather and fruity hops; almost dry and quite hop bitter finish, also prettily slim for a Barely Wine. Likeable. 08.IV.12

Bottled. Clear brown with a small creamy off-white. Tons of raisins and prunes on aroma. Taste is full-bodied and vinous with maple syrup and a hint of whisky in finsh. Long aftertaste. A glass of this beer feels like a whole dinner.

33cl bottle. Pours deep mahogany/ruby with thin white head - decent lacing. Aroma is full of dark fruits - plum and raisin especially, slight caramel and vinous notes. Taste is again full of dark fruit (plums, raisins, figs - detect a bit of grape too) with a crisp and assertive biscuit and caramel lightly roasted maltiness. Not much hop character. Perhaps a little too sweet and cloying for my palate, but pretty enjoyable nonetheless.

Bottle from Vinmonopolet. Pours dark mahoganey with a small tanned head. Vinous aroma, wood and raisins. Taste is rich and thick malty, moderate sweet, dark fruits and caramel. Wood and moderate bitterness at the end, also some liquorice lingering back there.

Bottle at home. Pours a clear deep reddish brown colour with a small beige head. High carbonation. Soft and sweet aromas of dried fruit, prunes, chocolate, rye bread, some roast, leather, oak, and sweet malt towards brown sugar. In the mouth I find hops, more dried fruit, sweet malt with caramel and brown sugar, and some roast in the end. I also find some licorice. A nice light bitterness with a slick and a bit watery mouthfeel. This is a tasteful and easy drinking beer, good balance and not too sweet.
