Dark mahogany color, almost black; flat. Light caramel aroma. Good body strength, strong caramel flavor, with dark chocolate tones, that become quite strong towards the end, as well as the bitterness; there are also roasted nuts at the end. Reasonable Strong Ale (not sweet enough to be a Barley Wine), a bit too much roasted for me.

Brown color. Simple aroma. Very good body, malty, with a lot of caramel and some chocolate. Bold final.

A very decent english barleywine that pours a deep amber/brown with an of-white head. Aromas of spice, and flavors of old hops, honey and a light bitterness.

Cask at Spring Brewtopia 2005... Murky, burnt caramel colored ale. No head. Malty nose with lots of green apple esters and chocolate notes. Well-balanced flavor with a soft blend of milk chocolate, toffee and alcohol. Full-bodied with an astringent mouthfeel. Lengthy, bitter, very drying finish. Generously hopped for an English barley wine.

Cask @ Buckeye: Wow, dark color. I thought I had my order screwed up till I took a whiff. Soft, lightly sweet aroma of crystal malt and flowery hops. Flavors basically followed the aroma: Pleasantly malty sweet with a touch of flowery hops balancing everything out. Very mild compared to what I expect when I see a beer advertized as "barleywine". But that being said, it was quite pleasing and very drinkable.

Bottle: On the label it says best before 11-97, so whatever year that makes it. Aroma of wine, vinegar, chocolate, and a little tartness. Pours a dark reddish-brown with lots of sediment. Small off-white head. Not a lot of flavor up front. Has a vinuous, caramel, chocolate, and light apple finish. Thanks to Styles.

Cask - The Trafford Arms, Norwich. Small, bubbly beige head, mostly lasting, deep ruddy chestnut body. Spicy cherry & berry aromas. Contrasting sharp & sweet cherry & berry battle on the tongue with some yeast & an ever so slight hint of roast. Medium body, quite soft with a delicate spritz & a lingering spicy tanginess.

(330ml ), As you swrill the goblet tiny hurricanes of booze covered raisin..wealthy malts.....smoky covered toffee bombard the air. A lifeless dark glass of evil ruby sits...... rivers of toffee rich malts,,raisins soaked in roastiness all in cloying streams.

(Half Pint from Gravity at the Fat Cat, Norwich) Very dark brown with a small off white head. Nut smell with some sweet fruit. Initial taste was a well balanced dark malt - sweet with lots of roastyness and a drying hop finish. Fruit and caramel - a heavy beer. Very nice, but best served in small doses I suspect.
