SSB is a refreshing beer of real flavour, distinctively hoppy and deliciously dry - perfect served cool. SSB commemorates the building of the famous Southwold Lighthouse, which has been guiding ships to safety since 1890.

I liked this beer pretty well, but maybe I’m not used to the style. A little more hop flavor fits my palate, but I enjoyed it none the less.

Bottle. Pours a cloudy amber with an average size frothy off-white head. Aroma of yeast, light hops and citrus. Taste of sweet malts and hops with a nice bitterness. A very enjoyable beer.

Bottle (550ml). Pours a lively, cloudy reddish orange - clouds and clouds of off-white head, hugely rocky. Aroma of orange peel, some hops, vague roasted malt, tinge of sharp alcohol. Taste is a bit like biting into an unpeeled orange, some sharp hops, not much malt (almost burnt), but still light and almost fruity in the mouth, nice contrasts. The citrus bitterness is the main finish. I like it, but I’m not wild about it. Would like to try it on cask in the UK.

Bottle 1pt 9 oz. Cloudy dark amber with medium white head that diminished slowly. Medium hoppy aroma. Medium body. Well balanced flavor with a medium bitter finish. Good brew.

Decent ESB. Pours with an outrageous head. Smells sweet and hoppy. Finishes smooth. Nothing to write home about, but not bad.

I have always loved the way English ales look. They just look like my idealized image of ale. This tea colored specimen was a classic example. Very creamy fluffy head that settled down, but didn’t leave all together. Sweet malty foretaste with a dry and very mildly astringent (not bitter as it had almost no hop profile) aftertaste.
