My late grandfather loved his Adnams. He used to live at Southwold, just under the lighthouse (see the label on the bottle). TheGrandMaster (1857), Auckland, New Zealand
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Apr 4, 2005 Poured from the bottle. A beautiful clear brown with a nice frothy head. Aroma is a little disappointing, with only a sweet maltiness coming through. The flavour is both a hearty maltiness and hoppiness. A bit carbonated, but offset by a good bitterness that clings to the tongue. DrGonzo (625), Somerville, Massachusetts, USA

Aroma reeks of wet cardboard, hops, dark bread. Mostly thin body, some spiciness, hints of apple, toffee as well. Drinkable but relatively indistinguishable. AlphaOne (142), Australia

Rich sweet biscuity malt, saltanas and a trace of smokeyness. Flavour is fruity with a little banana and grapes present, barky hoppiness, with a good drying bitterness, and a slightly roasted character. Light body. Dogbrick (2855), Columbus, Ohio, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Mar 10, 2005 Pours a dark amber color with a medium thin beige head. Thin rings of lacing. Mild aroma of malt and caramel. Medium-bodied and really not very bitter for a Bitter. Fuggles hops, citrus and malt flavors are nicely balanced, leading to an understated character. The finish is lightly bitter, fruity and clean. Not really extraordinary, but I had no problems drinking it at all. stouby (1937), Holbaek, Denmark
