Very malty, and well hopped. Refreshing and charming at the same time. A really good bitter. Me like ultraspank (866), Dublin, Ohio, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 5/5 | 16/20 | Nov 26, 2005 Had one of these at my new favorite pub the Winking Lizard. The bottle date was on or
before Sept 21 05, so the brew was not at it’s best. Nose of wheat, chicory, berries,
heavy spice, vinegar, brown sugar, and dried fruit. Pours a medium murky red amber.
What a head! Creamy, tight, tall and rocky. Fully lasting with very good lacing. The
brew has a nice balance, leaning towards hoppy. A slight metallic taste hinders somewhat.
The middle is warm, followed by a rewarding finish. The thick, creamy, and soft body is
as rich as liquid bread. mrkimchee (1414), Toronto, Ontario, Canada

Pours amber with a barely noticeable head....a relaxing, long day kind of beer. Cliche’ but really good with fish and chips, but you know that already. thornecb (1820), Marblehead, Massachusetts, USA

Off-white congolmerate head leaves slight lacing as it slowly recedes to remain on the surface. Malt aromas. Upfront caramel with a dry, lasting English hop finish. I could easily drink a bunch of these -- actually it’s gone. nickspies (76), Omaha, Nebraska, USA

One of the better Bitters I have had in a while. It would be nice to have this on cask in Britain...I would imagine it would be fantastic. Jonte (833), Gothenburg, Sweden

Smells of sweet malt, caramel, sweet fruit, citrus, toffee and some floral/spicy notes. Tastes of biscuity/toasted malt, fruit, apricot, citrus, some floral/spicy notes and hop bitterness. A bit dry. Really nice. But the carbonation is a bit too strong. Total score: 3.8

Nice fruity malt up front. A slight pause in the flavor and then the bitter hops kick in for the finish. Grassy and dry. Do I taste Ringwood yeast or is that my imagination? Not alot imparted to the beer from the hops except the biting bitterness. Lightly metallic in the finish. Crisp and dry. Lingering hoppiness in the aftertaste. A very solid special bitter but not enough to knock my socks off. A good change of pace though.
