Aroma has moderate fruitiness - ripe apples and banana, with a subtle spicy hop character. Amber color, creamy, thin off-white head. Flavor is a quiet blend of malt and grassy hops, neither are pronounced, but both are there. Mouthfeel is watery but smooth, finished with moderate hop flavor and bitterness. Very good session beer for hours of sitting in the pub drinking and eating. Woody, fruity, slightly vinegar aroma. Very soft, light, fluffy mouthfeel. Quite subtle and balanced. Some hops on the finish, and a bit of bitterness throughout, but this seems a little plain. Hit this at a pub off Trafalgar Square, where we spent the last two hours drinking before catching the Eurostar back to Belgium. Cask. Medium copper, decent head. Virtually no nose initially. Or even later. Flavor hints at apple, but then quickly transforms into a subtle but potent array of bitter hops. Hint of citric. Fuggles??? Quite nice. Linc (736), Sydney, Australia
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Jan 1, 2004 Crystal clear amber with strong carbonation. Pouring it releases a waft of pleasant floral hoppiness that doesn't translate to the tastebuds, instead, the taste is malty, slightly chocolatey and mildly bitter. A nice enough session beer but nothing special. Mungo (2474), Southampton, Hampshire, England
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Dec 1, 2003 Cask-conditioned. Aroma of earthy hops, fruit and a touch of caramel. Caramel becomes dominant in flavour but doesnt overwhelm hops. A pleasant salty finish and full body considering the strength. A fine session bitter.
