HogTownHarry (3922), Toronto (Harbourfront), Ontario, Canada Sep 13, 2007 Cask. At The Red Lion, Crown Passage off Pall Mall, London. This was in terrific shape - and I was gasping for a pint, so happily met! Clear copper pour with a decent creamy beige lasting head (not the dreaded sparkler?! - I didn’t have the heart to ask). Solid aroma of dry floral hops and light roast caramel / cereal malt - nice a bitter with a mellowing sweetness to it. The taste followed, simple, refreshing, a good grainy malt / dry floral and lightly funky hop bitterness struck a decent balance - nice light but chewy mouthfeel, more than faint astringency leading to a medium-length softly dry and lightly bitter finish - what a nice quencher on a beautiful afternoon walking through St. James’ Park. Underrated because it allways tastes better in southwold!
A nutty, tangy bitter with a distinctive aroma of smoke. A real bitter bitter!!
