HAHA thought i heard this was a good one , opened it, than saw the scores.. Anyway, pours dark red/ brown , white very small fast fading foam. No scent at all.. Too much carbo to me ( a little) . Taste is weak but not that bad. Very comparable to rodenbach , but even less taste ..

Had this a while back in a restaurant in Ghent, 25/?33cl bottle 12/2013. Fruit-caramel sweet and cloying dubbel interpretation of the style, providing little or no acidic/lactic alleviation to its unfocused, near-cloying yeast profile and offering no complexity at all, let alone any wood notes. Over saturated supermarket plum juice, syrop de Liège over table beer. Overall very unfocused, with an almost Piedboeuf-like dull malt sweetness. I was done with this bottle after two sips - testifies that big thumbs down drawing in the travelogue.

0,25L bottle, BB 17.11.2014. Pours dark ruby-brown with tan head. The head stays for a moment. Aroma is caramel, dark fruits, malts, yeast. Flavor is sweet with some sour notes, caramel, malts, dark fruits, yeast, wood. Finish is slightly dry and sweet with some wood. Overall: ok brew.

Bottle from Willems. Deep brown pour with thin white head. Aroma is toasty, malty, light caramel notes, ever so slight woody sour notes. Taste is sweet, malty, toasty, lots of caramel, a bit watery flavor, not really acidic. Palate is light with good carbonation. Meh.

On tap @ Henrik. Served in a goblet this one pours a clear deep dark purple brown body with a small but nicely lacing filmy beige head. It’s quite sweet on the nose. I get a strong sugary sweetness with burned caramel and raisins. A little bit of yeast and concentrated red fruits also here. Nothing that reminds me to much of a a Flemish (that I was hoping for) Tastes alright. It has no bitterness and it’s quite on the sweet side. Somehow it’s not cloying. Feels light oily, somewhat thin in the mouth and it’s gently carbonated. Red fruits we have lots of black currants, blackberries and it has a general syrupy fruit juice flavor. It’s not bad tasting at all but you get tired of it quite quickly down the glass. It has not sourness or acidity at all, so this has to be placed in the wrong genre. More like a fruity Belgian ale IMO. 17.01.2014

Bottle 250 ml at home, into a big snifter. ABV 5% Deep red to mahogany brown colour on a clear body with one finger of tan head. Good retention and nicely formed medium lacing left on the glass. Aroma of malts and caramel, way less than I expected. Taste is nothing special either, just some caramel, some malts, metallic notes on the finish, some hints of fruits presence. Thin body, low carbonation. Tart on the palate. Overall this was quite a disappointment with the only positive aspect being its appearance.

On tap @ Henrik, Bergen. Pours a deep runy-hued brown body with a small off-white head. Nose is apple vinegar, apple juice, dark malts and hints of coca-cola. Taste is watery apple vinegar, white sugar, mild caramel and hints of red berries and wine gum. Light body, medium carbonation. Very bland stuff, this is "sour brown" for beginners. I prefer them with a bit more character, to say the least.
