ChainGangGuy (4351) - Marietta, Georgia, USA - NOV 9, 2011
11.2 ounce bottle - $3.49 at Total Wine & More in Kennesaw, Georgia.

Appearance: Pours a dark brown body, ruby-hued at the edges, and with an initially large, beige head.

Smell: Lightly toasted dark bread, given some sweetish sugary accents and a little sprinkling of ground nuts blended with a variety of fruit notes, a sliver of alcohol, and a lightly earthy yeastiness.

Taste: Fruity, nutty dark sugar crystals, with further fruit-based tastes of ripe plum, hawthorn berries, apple, and grapeskins. Slow-moving maltiness of dark bread given a thin veneer of chocolate powder and sweet dark brown sugar. Slight yeastiness. Pinch of peppercorns. Fairly light touch of alcohol. Lively, fruity, semi-dry finish.

Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Medium-high carbonation, nicely effervescent.

Overall: The Dark Gold Ale has a pleasant sweetness to it, ample carbonation, the alcohol is fairly well concealed, and delivers a nice mix of flavors. I enjoyed it. One for all, all for one, Musketeer-lookin’ guy!

Bottle from Asao. Fruity, caramel and chocolate nose. Cherries, raisins. Somewhat spicy yeast. Dark brown with orange tints and a large, tan head. Fruity, chocolate, rich and taaty. A but of tartness, so though it is quite sweet it don’t cloy. Ok, just a little. Really quite tasty with my pork chops.

Another offering from my beer mules who cart beer back to me from all over the world, thanks mom and dad!!!! Dark root beer body with a tall tan crown that won’t go away. Lacing is stupidly sticky. Yum yum yum this is one of the first styles I cut my teeth on when starting to drink craft beer but in recent years I have forgotten about it and this just may rekindle my love of the Belgian strong! But ya this smells good, sweet yeasty, perfect spice, mild banana, raisins and port. The aroma is fantastic. Taste also has high degrees of yum. Perfect sweetness it never gets sugary. I love the yeasty banana clove flavors. Great dark fruit presence of raisins , prunes and red wine. Hitting black cherry now and that is the greatest flavor of all. Yep this beer is good!

Bottle (33cl) from Vinmonopolet (Vika), Oslo. Clear dark brown colour with a deep red hue. Large fluffy head, light beige, reducing slowly to a thick fine-bubbled coating, quite a bit of lacing. Malty-estery aroma, fairly sweet, with some fermented fruit, banana, caramel, wood. Taste of sweet malt, with some woody dryness and light bitterness, all in all well-balanced. Medium/full body, average carbonation.

0,75 l bottle from Vinmonopolet. Very dark brown, fluffy head. Sweet malt, velvety smooth. Not too strong character The label says a lot about a painter, not much about the beer

0.33L bottle bought at Vinmonoplet, Vika. Big fluffy airy blond head. Ruby-brown body with good clarity. Fruity belgian-style yeast up front. Then a whiff of red berries and toasted malts. Rich fruit flavor. Berry-like and jammy. Some light caramelly malts, too. Medium full. Slick texture. Fruit and alcohol warmth in the finish. An unusual one. Complex and easy drinkable.

0.33l bottle. Adriaen pours a dark reddish-brown body with a lasting creamy off-white head. Aroma is light yeasty, some hints of chocolate and some ripe berries. Lively to average carbonation, light oily carbonation and medium-bodied. Flavors are mild chocolate paper, light yeasty, ripe strawberries and a mild pungent-bitter finish. No favorite, but drinkable.
