beige head with big bubbles that burst open and fades immediately without lacing. redbrown clear colour. aroma of madeira, porto, caramel sweet, malt. taste like aroma aftertaste sweet. thin watery mouthfeel, thin body, almost no more carbonation. not a big fan of a fresh bottle and doesn’t improve at all with age, just portorised and bland. bottle 75 cl / bbf 2009

Bottle from Post Office Vaults, Birmingham. Dark brown, not gold. Cream lacing. Very metallic, very bloody malts. Like a rare steak. Made of metal. Not the greatest.

Bottle. Pours deep red with a big off-white head. Malty with fruity notes and a taste of caramel, but the one defining character here is the "hard edge" of alcohol. It feels like more than 11% but it IS good.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Surprisingly fruity Belgian dubbel. Has a body of sweet caramelised malt, with noteso of dark fruits and raisin. Fortunately, it’s not too sweet, but manages to keep it’s balance.

4.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
A nut-brown beer with a brown head. The nose is ripe with dates and fruitcake and has notes of caramel and malt. Sweet burned caramel full-bodied, rather fruity with caramel and some notes of dried fruit. The zippy carbonation is a little odd for this type of beer. Has a calvados thing going on. Light honey finish. A hair thin. It has all the really good flavors but is missing the richness of the great ones. Pretty amazing and underrated. A nice find.
