Pours a dark burgundy almost black and with a nice thick creamy head that stay long. Aroma are strong roasted malts and carramel coffee. Flavors are very rich, roasted malts, smoked coffee and carramel, some hints of chocolates. A creamy ending with a touch of spice. Very pleasant, lots of wonderfull rich flavors. A real winner, a top beer.
4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 crossovert (4536) - Wisconsin, USA - MAR 3, 2011
750ml bottle says "Adriaen Brouwer Dark Gold Ale". Purchased at Binny’s Beverage Depot.
Pours a dark brown/black with almost no light permeability, when held to the light, not even the edges turn much of a color though the entire beer turns a dark black/purple carrot color. The head is large, off-white, semi quickly dissipating and leaves nice lacing.
It has alot of typical Belgian Strong Dark Ale/Quadrupel scents. Dark sugar, yest twang, dark fruits, and subtle alcohol comprise the scent. There is a hint of spice from the yeast with a heavy whiff.
The taste is sweet but not overly cloying, the high level of carbonation helps cut the sweetness. It is abundant with dark, rich flavors. It has hints of raisins, dark fruits, dried cherries (lots of fruit), caramel, toffee, yeasty twang and spice, and a subtle hint of chocolate/coffee. The alcohol is present but not overbearing.
It is highly quaffable, though dangerous at 8.5% alcohol.
Overall it was a surprising brew. It is decently expensive but worth it as an alternative to say a St. B 12 or a Gulden Draak.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 janubio (279) - SPAIN - MAY 5, 2012
330 ml. bottle. Brown colour, with red hints when you hold the glass to the light. Big off-white head that takes its time to fade. Smell of dark fruits, prunes, raisins, chocolate, toffee and vanilla. Strong body, good carbonation, thin and creamy palate. Taste of chocolate, vanilla, dark fruits and maybe a hint of cherries. A warm alcoholic feel aftertaste, and a great beer, imo.

Smells like dark fruit, alcohol and a bit of a funk. It has a brick-red color with a tan head that’s pretty dense. It has a sweet-sour flavor, like a Flanders red. It has a very lively mouthfeel that finishes fairly clean. It’s delicious!

Really nice dark color with red glow coming through. Smell is not exceptional, but really nice taste. Palate very good as well.

An underrated belgian strong ale. Dark brown with huge head. Malty scent. Sweet but balanced, a bit of salty notes at the end (reminded me of Westvleteren 8 at this point). Delicious, and not too expensive, i’ll have more in the future, no doubt

Drank this bottle as Cambrinus in Brugge - 10/2008
Deep nutty brown in the glass with a frothy ivory colored head. Fruity (dark fruit) and malty in the nose.
It’s a stunning combination of the tartness and fruitiness of an oud bruin and the sweet maltiness of a dubbel. Lots of dark fruit and rich breadiness...quite unusual. Sticky in the finish with a bit of warming in the gullett.
Quite an amazing beer.

When pouring it seems relatively light in colour compared to the very dark beer that ends up in the glass, strange phenomenon. It has a warm malty aroma. Taste is rich, smooth and quite creamy. Flavour is malty and has some sweet dark fruits. Earlier Rating: 1/11/2009 Total Score: 2.4 Ruby brown colour with thin receding head. Aroma is a tad alcoholic with some lingering dry fruit in the background. Flavour is a little sweet and fruity at first then fades into something a bit musty and metallic.

Deep Ruby, slight hop and very slight sourness in the nose. Mild tobacco and musk also in aroma. Well balanced mild hop with smooth sweet malty taste. Lively carbonation good body. Very Smooth nothing outstanding, almost boring in some ways, but, I like it. Clean finish.
