3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 jimthechap (783) - Christchurch, NEW ZEALAND - MAY 17, 2012
Murky brown colour with a pillowy cream coloured head that sank into the glass as if it had suddenly been told it was adopted. It is a bit of an ugly child this one isn’t it? Classic stinky cheese and stale milk basement aromas, which anywhere else would cause you to demand your money back. This mellows in time to give a toasted marshmallow and dusty cocoa aroma. Fulsome carbonation and then a slightly sour vinous quality arise on the tongue then another reference to cocoa and tart juicy sour fruit. This lingers on the tongue. A funny ale. Interesting. Would I go back for seconds? Not in one session, but again in the future.
4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 janubio (235) - SPAIN - MAY 5, 2012
330 ml. bottle. Brown colour, with red hints when you hold the glass to the light. Big off-white head that takes its time to fade. Smell of dark fruits, prunes, raisins, chocolate, toffee and vanilla. Strong body, good carbonation, thin and creamy palate. Taste of chocolate, vanilla, dark fruits and maybe a hint of cherries. A warm alcoholic feel aftertaste, and a great beer, imo.
3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 dreadnord (308) - Castel Volturno, ITALY - APR 27, 2012
As the name inplies it pours dark brown, and eventually turns black as it pools in the glass. The head is huge. Takes a while to die down. Nose is hay and grass at first, some caramel and chocolate notes as well. Big dark fruit character, dates, prunes, plums and light spice. Taste is belgian rock candy sweet. Some good bitter balance as well which eventually overtakes the flavor in the end. Mouthfeel is crisp, clean. Medium bodied with a good length aftertaste.
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 Svesse (4389) - Hässelby, SWEDEN - APR 16, 2012
(Bottle, Monk’s Café Wallingatan, Stockholm) Dark brown colour with frothy, beige head. Malty, fruity nose with notes of caramel, dried fruit, crisp-bread and raisins. Malty, fruity taste with caramel, chocolate, raisins, prunes, brown sugar, crisp-bread and a spicy bitterness with a touch of liquorice. Almost full body, with a touch of sweetness. Well balanced, tasty and very nice.
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 KajII (460) - Macon, North Carolina, USA - APR 9, 2012
Bottle. The pour was a murky dark brown with a small (less than 1 finger) off white fizzy head that dissipated rapidly leaving behind a very thin film and small collar which did allow for some fair spotty streaks of lacing.
The aroma was of a dark bread malt and a doughy yeast with notes of toffee, honey, dark fruit (plums and raisins) and a mild alcohol tinge.
The taste was sweet and malty with hints of toffee and honey from the start with the finish being about the same but with a touch of dark fruit, a strong yeast presence and a moderate dose of alcohol at the end. The flavor lasted an average amount of time after the swallow with a nice fruity sweetness left on the taste buds.
Mouthfeel was just short of medium in body with a mild syrupy texture and a nice strong carbonation.
Overall a really nice tasting Strong Ale with a superb drinkability...

Lot of flavor and nice finish, but not all that great overall. I’d call it above average overall.

11.2 Ounce bottle. Pours a deep brown with a tons o’ head. Nose is skunky when first pour that dissipates to standard fruity with a bit of spice. Taste is a hint of citrus. Aftertaste is a bit off (almost like a latex glove), but I like this beer. +0.2 for the picture of the smug a**h*** on the bottle ;)
