Merry Andrew (alc. 6.2% vol) is a dark strong ale with a complex aroma and a good balanced, rounded flavour. Initial sweetness nicely balanced by dryer middle and end.

Cask, gravity, at Cambridge Beer Festival ’09. The first beer I tried (alphabetical order, you see), and, as it turned out, my Best of the Festival. Dark brown with a small off white head. Pungent old fashioned malt aroma, sweet and sticky. Taste was immensely sweet and lovely. Some bitterness gradually intensified. Excellent, and in retrospect I’d have enjoyed the Festival more if I’d just chugged it all afternoon.

Cask (gravity dispense) at Reading Beer Festival, May 2008. Actually brewed at an unnamed nearby brewery - possibly Stumpys - as their brew kit was not up and running at the time (it now is). Dark chestnut. Nice condition but cloudy. Clean, slightly caramel aroma. Quite restrained. Slightly fruity and nutty. Very smooth and easy drinking for 6%. Perhaps lacks a little punch for a strong beer but quite decent. Will try it again, once they are brewing on their own kit, if possible.
