While for the classic "Aecht Schlenkerla Rauchbier" traditionally beech has been - and still is - used, the malt for "Schlenkerla Oak Smoke" is kilned with Oak wood. The resulting Schlenkerla Oak Smoke Malt has a smoother and more multi layered smoky note than the intensely aromatic Beech Smoke Malt. The hence complex smokiness in the "Schlenkerla Oak Smoke" is paired with the multifaceted bitterness of finest Hallertau aroma hops. With 8% alcohol and amber color it matures for months in the deep brewery cellars underneath Bamberg into a special treat for smoke beer lovers. www.Smokebeer.com

My first smoke beer, bottle from Liquor Barn, not my thing. Chose to rate it against the universe, hence the low rating. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle. Bronze with a very clear appearance and virtually no head. Quite a wooden smoked flavour. Perhaps not everybody’s taste but I really enjoyed it.

Flaske 0,5l fra NWAF Manchester. Delt med Rune under sesjon i H9 8 Mai 13. Mahognybrun. Luftig skum som varer. Litt lacing. Aroma av baconpølser. Smaken i samme gate. Veldig behagelig. Godt avrundet. Et gjennomført godt øl!

Small, just off-white head; clear chestnut-coloured beer. Overwhelming sweet-salty (= ’’umami’) smoked ham. Lapsan Souchong with syrup - not at all as Islay malt, not phenolic. Soft-sweet, with a very delicate woody-ham flavour, as honey-cure smoked ham. Finish has something (sweet-)spiced touch. Good balance! Not very well-bodied, certainly not for a Doppelbock. Very slick, even oily MF, and velvety texture. Feels a bit more carbonated than it looks. Not necessarily better than the Märzen, but certainly a worthy alternative!

50cl bottles, Maruhn 12/2013. Doppelbock sugars fighting Rauch fighting Oak. Three powerful basic tastes more next than complexly on top of each other. Pours a much lighter than expected amber-brown with typical Bock features. Some prune liqueur and abv fumes in the nose, Basic smoked signature malts remain solidly at the bottom, owing to the bottom fermenting base of Bock, creating an honestly somewhat too traditional watery fundament for the other tastes to sit on and partly fall through. Very light-bodied for a sugary 8% Doppelbock - allowing the massive oak dryness and some smoke, salt, soy and oil to play first fiddle. Not the impressive wallop that is Urbock - conflicted at the highest level.

almost red colour, with barely any head. aroma is smoke, ham, salmon, oak. taste is sweeter than the other schlenkerla beers, more malty i guess. nice smoke that dries out the mouth a bit. only thing that could be better is a fuller body

Aroma - how does one describe this aroma? Technically its chock full of beechwood and some light spice. What will you think it smells like? You might say it smells the same way you smell to others when you’ve been acting the Barbarian in the woods roasting barbecued meats all week by a smoky fire - alarmingly smoky, but in a pleasant way. Appearance - body is dark amber-brown-orange color; liquid is slightly hazy; head sets up about 1/3" and is off white. Taste - the underlying taste is sweet - what you’d expect of a well made doppelbock (nice rich sugary malt), and yet you have the overtones of that beechwood - oak smoke going on. Really quite enjoyable. Palate - body is medium; texture is slick; carbonation is soft; finish is medium in length and nice and smoky.

Dark amber body with medium creamy head. Aroma is bacon like, light smoke, really all just bacon. Taste is sweet caramel upfront with light bitterness with woody after taste. Body is medium with medium carbonation as well. I hate smoked beers, but this one is excellent.

Well, what can I say... this brew is just perfect. It can be compared to the original Schlenkerla, just without the urgent need to combine that heavy gammon taste with fresh german bread. The color is dark amber with a small frothy head. Aroma is gammon, smoke and wood. Taste starts sweet and thick with notes of, well, gammon, smoke and wood. Nice bitterness, full body.
