COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
While for the classic "Aecht Schlenkerla Rauchbier" traditionally beech has been - and still is - used, the malt for "Schlenkerla Oak Smoke" is kilned with Oak wood. The resulting Schlenkerla Oak Smoke Malt has a smoother and more multi layered smoky note than the intensely aromatic Beech Smoke Malt. The hence complex smokiness in the "Schlenkerla Oak Smoke" is paired with the multifaceted bitterness of finest Hallertau aroma hops. With 8% alcohol and amber color it matures for months in the deep brewery cellars underneath Bamberg into a special treat for smoke beer lovers. www.Smokebeer.com

500 ml bottle. Pours an orange mahogany with moderate head that settles quickly. Aromas of wood smoke, oranges and light toffee. Flavors of smoke, sweet toasted malts, marmalade, and light caramel. Definitely smoother than a normal smoked beer. I that is due to the oak wood it’s definitely a good thing.

Sweet honey like soft smoked aroma with a light booziness. Really nice. The beer is deep red orange with a head just off white. Wow. Flavour is beautiful smoke with bright fruits, raisins and a lingering bitterness with a sweet malty backbone. Full bodied, perfectly suited to the flavours.

Aroma is slightly smoky, the taste resembles the Märzen without the very overwhelming sensation of bonfire smokiness, but with a much more detailed multi variate smokiness where you fully get to appreciate the different ’layers’ of smoke. It is slightly bitter with subtle tones of liquorice, but as it warms it slightly sweetens. The appearance is a bark amber colour with some carbonation. Overall, I cannot recommend this beer! Knowing how few ever get made, if you are not brave enough to seek this out on your own, you should never be given the opportunity to taste this, for it is a very particular niche we are dealing with here, not for everyone. Most people would not like this beer.

Beese (2560) - Watford, Hertfordshire, ENGLAND - DEC 2, 2014
Draught at GBBF 2012. Poured a hazy, but bright orange, with a dense white head. Aroma of smoked malt and bacon, but slightly toned down from some of their other offerings, with juicy fruits and some spice. Earthy malt in the flavour, with some spruce and smokiness coming through. Finish was peat, chewy grain and grass.

500mL bottle, pours a hazy dark golden orange with a medium white head. Aroma brings out a lovely smoky ash pit - typical for Aecht Schlenkerla smoke beers. Flavour isn’t as smoky as expected, with loads of caramel malt upfront, followed by ashy smoke, and smoked meat. Full-bodied, chewy and meaty, with moderate sweetness. Classic smoked doppelbock - doesn’t get much better than this.

Bottle. Murky brown pour with light white head. Aroma, wow, bacon, smoke, ash, smells like smokey beef jerky. Taste is light malty sweetness, followed by smoke, ash, finishes with more smoke, mouthfeel and carbonation are medium. This is great, really smokey aroma and the flavour combination of a smoked beer combined with the malty sweetness that you would expect from a bock works really together.

Tap. Sheffield Tap. Copper colour. Bit of haze. Thin, off white, sticky head. Savoury smokiness, like Kempke bacon, or smoked sausage. Some woodiness in there. Some ripe orange fruitiness, too. Taste is fairly sweet. Savoury dry. Hint of bitterness at the end levels things up. Smooth palate, but prickly carbonation helps in this not being too chewy. Finishes smoky sweet, with a dry, gentle bitter close. Super drinkable. Feels nothing like 8%. Lovely.

Bottle poured a hazy orange-brown hue w/ a one finger fizzy beige head fully diminishing. Moderate sweet smokey aroma. Initial flavor is bold sweet w/ a mild bitter finish. Tastes are brown sugar, smoke, and light toast. Full bodied and balanced mouthfeel. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
