3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 TimE (2604) - Tokyo, JAPAN - MAR 9, 2013
Deep mahogany color. Big nose of caramel, chocolate and smoke. The body is rich, sweet and smokey, but the smokiness seems to battle with the bigness of the Dopplebock and neither side seems to win. Additionally, the beer is a bit too sweet for the style. Drier bocks work better with smoked beers and lower ABV. Still not a bad drop, but I would rather stick to some of Schlenkerla’s conventional offerings.
3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 Brouwerij (501) - Boulder, Colorado, USA - MAR 6, 2013
Bottle. Pours a clear dark copper brown with a quarter finger of instantly settlng off white head. No lacing. Aroma is smoky, woody, earthy, oak, bacon, peated malt. Flavor is sweet, smoky, oak, with a strong smoky finish that lingers, hints of bacon. The oak is definitely smoother and sweeter than the beechwood. Very smooth carbonation, medium body, and mildly chewy texture. A rich, smooth, and delicious smoked beer.

Bottle pours a dark amber with a very thin white head. Tastes smooth and smokey. Lightly carbonated. Hints of oak and bacon on the palate.

Pours a clear cherry red brown, no head and a very light carbonation. Smoky aroma, some bacon, a bit of burnt wood, fruity flavours of cherries and berries. Lots going on but really works well. Unusual, well balanced sweet and smoky. Memorable.

Botella de 330ml. Copa Globo.
330ml Bottle. Snifter glass. Enjoyed on mar´13. Pours dark mahogany in color & beige headed. Aroma profile is great: toasted malts, hints of ripe apricot, figs & prunes, brown sugar & molasses, fresh black tobacco & cocoa touches. Sweet malts on the upfront are overwhelmed by sharp hoppiness. Full body. Soft carbonation. Thankfully cocoa & malts come back in the middle to balanced bitterness. Then, hops & malts get along well into a long finish. Texture is oily, neither sugary nor acidic. Fruity aftertaste. ABV is incredible well hidden. Flavorful & complex as a Wine should be. Perfect pairing: Black berry topping cheese cake.
3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 ronaldtheriot (811) - Laplace, Louisiana, USA - MAR 3, 2013
Aecht Schlenkerla Eiche has essentially no head, just a few big, soapy, off-white bubbles. There is no lacing. The appearance is hazy and rust-red, with gray-white sediment floating about and some tiny bubbles that race to the top. The araoma is of smoked pork, and the flavor is of the same, with some underlying malt sweetness, caramel, and a decent amount of hop bitterness in the bottom of the sip. Mouthfeel is watery, and Aecht Sclenkerla Eiche finishes semi-dry, mild, and odd. Overall, I rate this unusual Christmas beer very high, even though it takes some getting used to. Check it out! RJT
3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 zenkis (300) - Ogre, LATVIA - FEB 27, 2013
Pours amber reddish with medium beige head, minimal lacing.
Aroma -smooth, rich compared to "Urbock". Guess what- smoked :) a bit earthy, a bit mushroomy, a bit toasted-roasted. Can’t catch malt or hops notes. Very nice, complex flavour.
Taste is mild sweet with pleasant medium bitter from smoked/toasted malt and a bit more bitter from hopping. My favorite astringency from hopping and maturation is also sensible, mild hops bite on tongue. Close to full body, thick but smooth texture, soft carbonation. Almost no dry finish, sweetish aftertaste. In conclusion - fact that tried two in a row is measure of good or better :)
3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 crazyvin (1705) - New York, USA - FEB 24, 2013
A nice deep copper body with a off white head that had good retention and lace. Aroma had a strong smoke aroma upfront, mostly oak but there was an alder like presence to it too. Some sweet malt notes in the back. Flavor was mostly similar. Obviously there was a strong smoke flavor to it. It kind of reminded me of liquid smoke. Good smoke flavor with a savory note. Sweetness of the malts came through a little more than the aroma indicated. Finish was slightly dry and the mouth-feel was decent.

Bottle @ Home. Pours dark amber with a offwhite head. Aroma of sweet malt, caramel notes, lots of smoke, bacon and campfire. Flavor of malt, campfire smoke, smoked ham, bacon, caramel, little dark fruit, light booze. Medium body, soft carbonation. Very easy drinking for the intense flavor and ABV. 240213

Tap. Clear red amber with a medium off white head. Aroma is smoke wood, dry tobacco, caramel, bacon. Taste is medium sweet, hardly any bitterness. Light/medium body, watery/oily texture, soft+ carbonation. Smokey bacon finish. Perhaps I'll learn to appreciate this more sometime.
