While for the classic "Aecht Schlenkerla Rauchbier" traditionally beech has been - and still is - used, the malt for "Schlenkerla Oak Smoke" is kilned with Oak wood. The resulting Schlenkerla Oak Smoke Malt has a smoother and more multi layered smoky note than the intensely aromatic Beech Smoke Malt. The hence complex smokiness in the "Schlenkerla Oak Smoke" is paired with the multifaceted bitterness of finest Hallertau aroma hops. With 8% alcohol and amber color it matures for months in the deep brewery cellars underneath Bamberg into a special treat for smoke beer lovers. www.Smokebeer.com

man this is phenomenal but I got to review this during te second intermission as it’s pure enjoyment and 100% worth not even bothering to review in flavour of straight up endulgence. Llems: smoothest of smooth sweet smoke, fuckloads of wood, honey, borderline meat. Etsat: quick bitterness and zip, light orange note, constant mellow smoke, pepper feel near the back end. Amazing mouthfeel. Soft oh so soft. This should be a novel. Just don’t have the time. Incredible brew!

Hazy copper with half inch of tight foam. Aroma is woodsmoke and bacon. Taste adds a surprising sweetness and fruitiness. Smoke is subdued compared to their other beer but it works nicely. Hangs around in the finish to balance out the sweetness. As a doppelbock it’s as light and as ’non-sticky’ as I’ve had. Its even refreshing in a way, at the same time as being contemplative.

Another excellent addition to the Schlenkerla lineup. Sweet malt accented with the deep smoked malts, reminiscent of smoked meats. Copper body with small creamy head, fine carbonation and lots of suspended particulates. Aroma of wood smoke (from a fire), taste comes in with sweet malt and smoked meats. Abrupt finish with some lingering smokiness. Rauchbiers are an acquired taste, but this is a fine example.

From the 550 ml. bottle. The pour is a slightly hazy medium amber with a big off-white head. Aroma of smoky goodness along with a pale malts and low to nearly untraceable hops. The body is about medium. The taste is also highly smoked with caramel malts in the mix. Like so many Aecht brews, the smokiness just blows me away.

500ml bottle pours a pale amber color with a finger of white head that leaves some decent lacing behind. Aroma is smoky with some grass and grains. Taste is malty sweet with a grassy and light spicy hop bitterness and a smoky finish. Medium bodied with decent carbonation.

0.5l bottle. Clear amber body, off-white head. The aroma is mostly smoked ham but it has some caramel and bread to it. Taste of smoked ham, caramel, toast and some floral hops. You can feel the booze, that’s for sure but the smoky taste overpowers it so it’s not disturbing at all. Another quality brew from this company.

Draught at Bedford-Bamberg Beer Festival 2014. Perfectly clear dark gold. Smoked malt of course, but also sugarcane and a hint of orange peel. Taste is delicious: syrupy, strong and smoky. The sweetness is tempered in the finish, allowing the smokiness to assert itself. More sweet - a hint of honey? - in the aftertaste. Wow, just wow.

2013/05/07 - Pours a hazy amber colour with a small, sudsy off white head that quickly reduces to a lasting surface film. Visible suspended particulate. Aroma is wood, smoke, tobacco, herbs, caramel and roasted malts. Taste is smoke, floral hops, tobacco, herbs, roast and caramel malts. Starts off sweet and transitions to smokey, herbal and slightly bitter. Flavours are incredibly well balanced. Mouthfeel is medium to full bodied with smooth carbonation and a mildly drying finish. Well enjoyed. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
