While for the classic "Aecht Schlenkerla Rauchbier" traditionally beech has been - and still is - used, the malt for "Schlenkerla Oak Smoke" is kilned with Oak wood. The resulting Schlenkerla Oak Smoke Malt has a smoother and more multi layered smoky note than the intensely aromatic Beech Smoke Malt. The hence complex smokiness in the "Schlenkerla Oak Smoke" is paired with the multifaceted bitterness of finest Hallertau aroma hops. With 8% alcohol and amber color it matures for months in the deep brewery cellars underneath Bamberg into a special treat for smoke beer lovers. www.Smokebeer.com

Bottle Pours deep carmel copper hue with a nice eggshel head with very good lacing. big smokey nose with lots of wood. Flavors are smokey up front followed by nice doppelbock sweet malt and long into the finish. The Finish is both half smokey and half sweet malt. Body is big lush and quite slick. carbonation is mild. Very solid smoked beer here. Glad this is available locally.

500ml bottle into a Samuel Smith nonic. Paler brown color and a mild smoky aroma. This beer answers the age old question ’Is there any difference between beech smoking malt and oak smoked malt?’ Yes, Virginia, there is. This is a much less pronounced smokiness, both in aroma and flavor, as well as a less pronounced ’meatiness’ to the beer. I’m detecting a slightly burnt, ashy flavor to this one. I’ll have to say that I prefer the fuller flavored Urbock from this brewery.

Amber colored body, with weak head. Aroma is smoke, mlata, burnt sugar and malts. Palate is thick and little oily, and has low to medium carbonation. Taste is malty, sweetish and smoky obviously. Finish is sweet, with little warming sensation fron ABV. Overall original in taste , but could be more comples, now being regular dobbelbock with smoked flavour.

Tap @ Fermentoren. Pours bronze with a beige head. I will go ahead and be honest. I hate smoked beers like this. So if you like smoked beers. Don’t look at this rating. The aroma has lots of smoked meat of all kinds, woolen sweaters, dirty robes and ash. Some sweet malts in the back as well. The taste is... smokey with lots of smoked meats, ash, sweet malts, grainy notes and woolen sweaters.

Clear, deep amber-ruby colored, medium- off white head. Aroma is some malt and caramel but mostly strong smoked ham and some toast. Taste is medium sweet malt, caramel, moderate to strong smoked ham, some toasted malt, campfire, medium herbal bitterness, semidry finish. Medium to full bodied, soft carbonation, creamy. Definitely my favorite Rauchbier.
