4.5 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 19/20

4.8 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20
Pours out a clear copper/amber with a thick off-white head. Lots of lacing left over.
Smoke comes off less powerful than some of the other Schlenkerla offerings. More woody than meaty. Smoke seems a little more multifaceted than how the beechwood comes off. Sweet caramel maltiness.
Plenty of smoke character and sweetness all over with some breadiness.
Creamy smooth medium body.

This version of the Bambergs smoke-beer is definitely my favorite from this brewery. Subtle smoke taste. Round sweet malt taste with a balanced spiciness. Great beer.

4.6 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 19/20
To me, this comes close to the Urbock version. Both are wonderful and so is the Märzen. Perfect balance with the smokiness matched by sweetness and bitterness. Complex. Easy to drink. Wonderful.

4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20
I like unique and one of a kind brews with big flavors. Even if I don’t get it I total admire the ambition and risk of it. With this brew all your senses, smel and taste are engaged. The aroma is a scent of barbecue, smoky like sausages are grilling in a pit ablaze. Plum hue. Thick head. Powerful flavors, the smokiness of it lingers in your mouth. It seems more boozy than it really is. Like someone stated this is not a brew for everyone but I get it. One of the years best.

4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
500 mL bottle from Total Wine, Virginia Beach, VA. Dark orange pour with a frothy off-white head. Powerful aroma of smoked sausage, peat, and oak. As intense as the aroma is the taste manages to be smooth while the smoke still dominates as the main feature in the flavor. The smoke blends wonderfully with elements of wheat, oak, and light toffee. This beer is certainly not for everyone but I quite enjoyed it. Sorry I waited so long to try this one but it is a winner!

Bottle at Pivkan, Zagreb, about a year ago. Reminded me of smoked cheese. I enjoyed it, but probably not everyone will like it.

4 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
What an excellent smoke aroma as well as even MORE intense smoke flavor! Moderately malty and no bitterness. The only real campfire beer I've had. I'd like to see it aged in High West Campfire Whisky barrels.

Another very nice smoked beer from Brauerei Heller! Can’t say if this is better than Urbock, very good anyway.
