While for the classic "Aecht Schlenkerla Rauchbier" traditionally beech has been - and still is - used, the malt for "Schlenkerla Oak Smoke" is kilned with Oak wood. The resulting Schlenkerla Oak Smoke Malt has a smoother and more multi layered smoky note than the intensely aromatic Beech Smoke Malt. The hence complex smokiness in the "Schlenkerla Oak Smoke" is paired with the multifaceted bitterness of finest Hallertau aroma hops. With 8% alcohol and amber color it matures for months in the deep brewery cellars underneath Bamberg into a special treat for smoke beer lovers. www.Smokebeer.com

500mL bottle BB 7/14 Presents a thick looking bronze body with small but dense beige head. Aroma explodes from the glass, very complex; charred wood (obviously), burnt toast, clove-like spice, sulfury smokiness, rich caramels, dark fruits. Full bodied, quite luscious and smooth with a moderate carbonation, and tremendous length. Offers plenty more on the palate; smoked paprika, black cardamon, heavy toasted oak barrel, tobacco, burnt caramel, treacle, clove, dried herbs. Decent bitterness, slight warming, finishes dry. Seriously smoky stuff, but excellently balanced, and brewed. Great showcase of oak smoke malt really.

Bottle: Served in a Shaker: Forgot about this pearl: Small creamy head on top of a clear amber colored beer. Aromas of smoke, tobacco, smoked malts, hint of flowers, wood smoke, some plant ish tones, caramel, light marzipan and some sweeter barley malts. Nice round aroma. Flavours of smoke, leafs, bitters, malts, some plants, some caramel, some barley malts, cream, herbs, light woody tone, some subtle different layers of smoke and green bitter tones... Easy drinker yet leaning to certain complexity. Very nice! Aftertaste is a mix of bitters, herbals, smoke and smoked malts and some light sticky malty tones. Low carbo, oiky silky mouthfeel, medium to full bodied and an oily texture. What a pleasure to drink this again and keep drinking it. Marvelous beer!

Appearance: The body is a ruddy brownish red accompanied by a small light tan head that’s incredibly bubbly.
Aroma: Big smoked meats, peppered beef jerky, and campfire with a dash of a sweet, malty, bready and fruity doppelbock beneath. Very hidden though.
Taste: The smoke is very prominent throughout, but I don’t feel it out of balance. It’s a huge smokiness like chewing on smoked beef jerky that lingers for minutes. The base beer hides underneath with a slight sweetness, a touch thin flavored, with a bready base.
Palate: Medium bodied and mild to moderately carbonated.
Overall: I like the smoke profile here. Keep peat smoke and ash and such out of my smoke beers! Oak or beachwood smoked only!

Ins Glas ergießt sich ein dunkel rötlichbraunes Bier mit schöner Schaumkrone. Geruch intensiv rauchig, Schinken, leicht röstmalzig, Eichenfass. Geschmack rauchig, würzig, geräucherter Schinken, klasse!

The kings of smoke. Darkish brown with a big bubbled off white head. The huge lashings of smoke and smoked food makes for an arousing aroma. Proper bloke stuff that is. Got alcohol present but that goes well in here, something medicinal about this. Prefer the urbock but this is still a good beer.

Very nicely balanced rauchbier. Doppelbock character dominates with maltiness and light alcohol, and the smoke in the flavor compliments the beer’s complex malt sweetness. Light amber color, crystal clear . Smoke aroma mixes with malt character in the nose, and the smoke character lasts to the end.

Flaske 0,5 liter, Smagt hos Lars, god røget smag, bære dog nag af noget pølse af en art, dufter godt, men mangler lidt i smagen.
