While for the classic "Aecht Schlenkerla Rauchbier" traditionally beech has been - and still is - used, the malt for "Schlenkerla Oak Smoke" is kilned with Oak wood. The resulting Schlenkerla Oak Smoke Malt has a smoother and more multi layered smoky note than the intensely aromatic Beech Smoke Malt. The hence complex smokiness in the "Schlenkerla Oak Smoke" is paired with the multifaceted bitterness of finest Hallertau aroma hops. With 8% alcohol and amber color it matures for months in the deep brewery cellars underneath Bamberg into a special treat for smoke beer lovers. www.Smokebeer.com

Rating #1109 - May 29, 2014 - Bottle from CBI. Pours an amber brown in colour with a minimal tan head that fades quickly. Distinct smoky, vanilla/toffee aroma oozes out. Very unique body, medium alcohol warmth, predominant smokiness on the palate tempered with the dry, bitter roast malt character of the stout. Medium alcohol character, especially for 8% - finishes much smoother, rounded flavours compared to other Schenkerla I have sampled. Really good smoked brew.

Beautiful rich amber colour, slight head. Aroma is charred wood, over-ripe fruit, banana, charcoal. Great smokey, fruity flavours, like a burnt "dubbel". Palate is rich and smooth. I really wasn’t expecting this to be so sweet and greedy. Much, much less in your face than other smoked beers I’ve tried. This will become a regular in the "cellar".

the aroma is caramel and smokey with some hints of candy... the taste contains, except traditional smoked malt, the notes of oak barrel and some fruity sweetness... smoked sweet and bitter aftertaste...

Bottle, 500mL. @Strasbourg, bar "Aux 12 Apôtres". With GG&Jeff&children. A clear dark brown mahogany beer with a good off-white creamy head ; good retention. Smoky roasty aroma, caramel, spices, coffee. Medium sweet and bitter, light salty : nice balance. Medium body and oily texture, good carbonation, sweet finish herbal & salty. Overall, WOW, my first beer in this style : utterly delicious, what the hell is this smoked salmon aroma ?! Glad to discover a new area in the taste spectrum.

500ml bottle: poured an intense ruby colored body, not so tall beige head that disappears completely after a few minutes. Smells strongly of smoke and has some malts notes. Tastes like smoked meat, roasted malts, wood and a bit bittery. I think it’s the best smoked beer I’ve had so far!

Pours a coffee colored robe with a medium carbonation and topped with an average persistent head of a ’’beige’’ aspect. It hits the nose with a powerful hickory scent. The taste is smooth, smoky and slghlty meatty. My first experience with a smoked beer and it was pleasant. Also this is the 100th brand I tried in my life! Cheers!

Pours a clear copper with a thin film for a head that leaves pretty good lacing considering how small it is. Aroma is smoke and some malty syrup. Taste is sweet and lightly fruity, offers more smoke and is almost cloying. Smoke level is dialed in just right though, it is just too sweet for my taste. Body is medium-full, carbonation critically low and mouthfeel syrupy. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Overtly smokey, bacon and brown sugar. Nose stronger in smokiness than palate. Was really looking forward to the bottle but really did not enjoy it. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
