While for the classic "Aecht Schlenkerla Rauchbier" traditionally beech has been - and still is - used, the malt for "Schlenkerla Oak Smoke" is kilned with Oak wood. The resulting Schlenkerla Oak Smoke Malt has a smoother and more multi layered smoky note than the intensely aromatic Beech Smoke Malt. The hence complex smokiness in the "Schlenkerla Oak Smoke" is paired with the multifaceted bitterness of finest Hallertau aroma hops. With 8% alcohol and amber color it matures for months in the deep brewery cellars underneath Bamberg into a special treat for smoke beer lovers. www.Smokebeer.com

Golden copper color with an off white head. Nose is smoked meat with citrus fruit. The flavor is even more smoked meat to start. Then the hops kick in and add very interesting aspects. They are citrus, sulfur, pine, and mildly bitter. Then the smoke takes over again. In general this is a sweet beer. Oak is never tasted.

Remarkably smooth easy-drinking smoked. The smoke is there but its understated under a delicious malt mix. Its on my lips well after I have completed it. It was great with BBQ. Greyish golden coloured body, small head. Mild smoke aromas. A tad above average mouthfeel.

From a bottle poured a brown color with a small amount of head. Smokey malty flavor with a lingering aftertaste.

Bottle. I am not a big smoked fan, but I gotta say, I enjoyed this one a lot more than the other Schlenkerla offerings, as the smoke is definitely not as -in-your-face powerful. It is still very smokey, for modern American craft beer standards. Plenty of bacon, but also plenty of sweet sticky malt. Sweet, but not overly so. If you are indeed a fanatic of smoked beers, I think you will quite enjoy this one.

Pours a minimal head that dissolves to nothing in under ten seconds. Lacing is likewise minimal but definite though quick. Body is a beautiful, clear copper. Aroma is smoked bacon / ham. Excellent! Don’t know how anybody could smell anything under this. Wait, a little floral. Taste is appropriately medium salty. Palate is livevly on the lips and middle of the tongue with a definite, bitter finish. There is nothing cloying or even sweet about this smoked dopplebock. Love it.

500ml bottle. Glad to finally score this one. Big, ruthless, burnt bacon tinged smokalicious aroma. Wow. Complex. Somehow keeps the drinkability of the Marzen while adding some depth. The oaky tones really complement the smokiness. Flat out phenomenal for the style, an awesome, classy addition to the Schlenkerla family. Smooth creamy malt tones. Pungent, fruity, lager yeast tones which resonate in the aftertaste.

Keine alkoholischenSpuren. Dunkelmalziger und schinkenrauchiger Abgang. Ein excellentes Rauchbier!

Bottle at the Battersea BF 11 and Keg at the Rake (of was it the C&K?) in recent months. Everything that you’d expect from this brewery but for me a tad rich and cloying. I was in Bamberg last November and had hoped to try this then. Urbock was sublimely sessionable from the wood at Schlenkerla but the regulars there warned us that this beer is considered far too sweet for local tastes and I can see why now. Nevertheless a world class sipper..

A delicious smoked beer. Aroma was great. Smoky bacon and beef jerky. Pour was a nice medium gold with a few rising bubbles and a thin off white film for a head. Taste was nice and smoky. The sweetness of the doppelbock seems a little off when paired with the heavy smoke flavor. Seems kind of muddled and leaves a slightly astringent flavor in the mouth after the swallow. Medium light carbonation. Love this brewery as they make the best smoked beers out there!

Draft @ Ølbaren, Copenhagen. Pours a clear amber color with a small off-white head. Has a fruity malty smokey caramel aroma. Fruity malty smokey flavor with oaky hints and hints of caramel. Has a fruity malty smokey caramel finish.
