COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
While for the classic "Aecht Schlenkerla Rauchbier" traditionally beech has been - and still is - used, the malt for "Schlenkerla Oak Smoke" is kilned with Oak wood. The resulting Schlenkerla Oak Smoke Malt has a smoother and more multi layered smoky note than the intensely aromatic Beech Smoke Malt. The hence complex smokiness in the "Schlenkerla Oak Smoke" is paired with the multifaceted bitterness of finest Hallertau aroma hops. With 8% alcohol and amber color it matures for months in the deep brewery cellars underneath Bamberg into a special treat for smoke beer lovers. www.Smokebeer.com

On tap at Track 84 - Warwick, RI. YES! Real and intense smoke, this time on a different bent. Strong wafting deep woods campfires rise from the glass. The smoke is even, quick, and dry. Much of less of the pork-fat, bacon, grease character and more of a soft, warm September afternoon in central Wisconsin, centered around an oak twig burn pile edged with leaves. Crisp, chalky, and delightful. The smoke is more direct and overwhelms the malt profile completely, but holds it’s own against the alcohols. A wonderfully balanced beer. A sharper, drier smoke, but a beautifully intense one.

Draft. Pours amber orange with a beige head. Nice smoky aroma with lighter notes of burlap. The flavor has smoke, some oaky woddy notes, rope, and burlap. Very good and very drinkable, however, my top Aecht Schlenkerla brew is still the Fastenbier.

hopscotch (9113) - Indian River County, Florida, USA - JAN 31, 2010
Draft… Clear, deep amber lager with a small, white head. The aroma is an assortment of caramel, praline and campfire smoke. Medium-bodied and creamy with stinging carbonation. Bittersweet flavor – leans more toward the bitter side of balance. Lengthy, bittersweet finish.

Draught @ Ølbaren. Amber coloured. Unclear. Dense beige head. Bacon, fruits, smoke and spice in the aroma. Flavour as well full of bacon and smoke. Has some caramelly and spicy notes as well. Medium to full bodied. Heavy smoky bitterness in the end. Complex and balanced. Nice.

Draught at Ølbaren. Clear amber body with a creamy off white head. The aroma is bamberg smoke, sweet malt, caramel and some dark fruit. The flavour is sweet tobacco, smoke, sweet caramel, dark fruit and light bacon. So great balanced. Fantastic smoked beer!

Draught. Clear dark brown amber colour, medium nice off-white head, good lacing. Lovely smokey woody aroma. Good mouthfeel. The flavour has a very pleasant not too bombastic smokiness with caramel, wood and a mild bitterness. Very tasty pleasant smoked!

puzzl (3249) - New York, New York, USA - JAN 23, 2010
Tap at 4th Avenue Pub. Green olive, hammy, smokey bacon, scallion, marshmallow and chili pepper aroma. A long list for a very complex aroma. Still, I vastly prefer the smoke profile from the traditional beech wood; this was just a bit too hammy and vegetal, and didn’t have that lovely campfire and hickory bacon aroma that their real stuff does. Full bodied in the mouth, hammy, prickly carbonation, a bunch of peat flavor. Reminds me more of American smoked efforts, which are never as good.

Defreni (2603) - Husum, DENMARK - JAN 23, 2010

From tap at Ølbaren. Pours clear and golden orange with a creamy, off-white and dense head. Aroma is smooth beachwood smoked. Not oaks. Smooth sweet, caramelish and mellow smoked. Lovely smooth and light caramelish finish. Greatly wellbalanced. Smooth lasting smoked finish.
