3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
On tap... first true smoked, I believe. Unbelievable how smokey, bbq, bacon like this smelled. tasted similar. while i would say it’s a "cool" beer to try, wouldn’t say I love the taste or could drink more than one.

4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle 50 cl. Pours amber copper color with minimal white lacing head and a smoked ham scent. First observations of the taste is that it has some smoked ham and wood in it, secondary tastes emerge after few sips as sweet and smoked malts, caramel, some spicyness and herbs The smokiness of Hellers rauchbiers are truly unique and thrillingly tasty. One of the best smoked style beers i have tasted. This would even work well as a breakfast in some occasions. Very tasty drink.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle @ #HPJ-13. Pours a clear burnished copper with a small, white head. Aroma is smoke and smoked ham. A bit of oak perhaps as well. Taste is rather sweet. Smoke and smoked ham dominate again, but caramel is quite strong as is certain pale malt graininess. The malt base is really strong in this one in comparison to Urbock or Märzen. Some nuttiness and butteriness. Surprisingly light in the mouth, not much carbonation. A bit of a disappointment perhaps.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
500ml bottle, clear deep amber colour, small frothy off-white head, not much lacing. Smoky and tarry aroma of caramel malt, fruit, herbs and even a bit of meat. Taste is bittersweet and somewhat salty initially, turning into a longish bitter finish with a moderately astringent and slightly alcoholic feel. Full body, creamy texture, average carbonation. Quite good and stands out, should certainly try out more of this style as I’m into all kind of smoked things anyway.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Copper, red, caramel coloured clear beer with a small beihe head. A lovely smokey, smoked ham aroma with sweetness. Very soft mouth feel. Full body. A hint of bitterness but lots of caramel and sweetness. Very lovely taste. The bitterness actually arrives a little lately in the after taste. A very good beer!

Pours dark orange with a large light tan head. Smells strongly of smoke. Taste is strongly smokey with a little malt sweetness. Full-bodied with a smooth, slick texture and soft mouth-carbonation, Schlenkerla Eiche Doppelbock finishes with a lingering smokey sweetness.

4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
500 ml bottle bought from "Lifesource" in Salem OR.
Pours a hazy amber colour with a small yet very persistent off white head.
Its been a while since i had a Schlenkerla beer but the delicious smokey aromas bring me right blackened smoked ribs, sausage and ham..fantastic really cant get enough,.Yet you can get the really great malty backing if you sniff deeper.
The taste is far more balanced with the almighty chewy, caramel malts almost besting the delicious smoke. Both are melded into one by expert brewers.
Nice smooth ,creamy palate a treat for the tongue!
Just a wonderful winter beer..great stuff.

3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Pours a clear amber color with a quickly disappearing head. Nose has smoked meat, oak and burnt caramel. Taste is quite sweet with a long, mellow and sweet finish with a final kick of mild bitterness. Carbonation is medium and the palate rich and oily. Overall an excellent smoke beer with the high ABV well hidden.

On tap at Alewife in Baltimore. Pours an amber very clear. Minimal head. Lots of smoke in the nose. Only smoke. Flavor is a burnt marshmallow cooked over a campfire. Interesting. Lots of smoke. Nice to style.

3.6 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
0.5 l bottle from Alko. Orange brown colour, small head. Smell and taste are dominated by smoke. Yes, the smoke is not here as aggressive as from the beech. Well, hard say to really, I should have tasted this together with the more common variant. The high amount of alcohol is still covered in smoke.
