COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
While for the classic "Aecht Schlenkerla Rauchbier" traditionally beech has been - and still is - used, the malt for "Schlenkerla Oak Smoke" is kilned with Oak wood. The resulting Schlenkerla Oak Smoke Malt has a smoother and more multi layered smoky note than the intensely aromatic Beech Smoke Malt. The hence complex smokiness in the "Schlenkerla Oak Smoke" is paired with the multifaceted bitterness of finest Hallertau aroma hops. With 8% alcohol and amber color it matures for months in the deep brewery cellars underneath Bamberg into a special treat for smoke beer lovers. www.Smokebeer.com

Thoroughly enjoyed from a 16.9oz bottle in a wine glass. The beer pours a deep brown color, with a moderate light brown head. Wondrous notes of smoked meats and German character malt come through in the nose; an intoxicated array of bacon, raisons, caramelized brown sugar, and just a touch of wood. The palate replicates many of the aromas, showing a deep and rich smoke note, followed by a nice but not over-the-top amount of malt depth and complexity. Again, oak shows through, but only slightly, adding to the painting, rather than completely covering the canvas. The finish leaves a lingering note of smoke. Overall, an outstanding beer, by any measurement.

Clear, dark amber with a lacy, dense, flannel blanket of almost white. Oily vanilla oak smoke flavour with melanoidinly spiciness that is balanced by a woody bitterness. Subtle nutty notes. Smooth and with a unique smoke character.

Dark pumpkin orange, with hints of brown at the thick parts. Not much head, but a lovely foamy film that sits on top of the beer. The body doesn’t look amazing, but the color is great. The aroma is an amazing -- AMAZING -- peat smoke. Brings me flashbacks to childhood campfires. Smoked bacon and grilled meats. If you didn’t know this was a beer, you might think your nose was over a grill. I can’t say enough about the aroma: it taps directly into a sense of childhood simplicity, like a carnival or a backyard picnic. The flavor, again, is smoked meat: bacon and smoky, blackened brisket. Not like a barbecue, but like meat slowly smoked over coals and blackened wood. It’s not a spiciness, a la a chipotle ale, but rather like a dry, smoky Rauchbier or a Russian peat-smoked tea. The feel of the beer is slick and oily. It has a thickness on the back end. I do have to say that this is best consumed in small doses. And while it might pair well with a smoked BBQ, it might also be overkill. It might pair even better with a sweeter sauce.

UPDATED: OCT 16, 2014 1 pint bottle served in shaker- poured a transparent lightened amber with a tint of orange when held to a light source, no head but some frog eyes upon the surface. Near to zero carbonation, aroma of SMOKE (pure smoke, with fish and bacon), leather, and sex- OH YEAH! Hits the mouth with an extremely wide body, malt was smoked with German perfection, middle has an almost Arctic Char (fish) quality to the taste, finish is delightful with heavy strides of smoke and notes of sweetness. That was NICE.

A while since I drank this, but I remember a) the slightly fishy smoked aroma, b) finding it very drinkable, and c) the distinct and unique aftertaste of sweet chestnuts. Liked this stand-out beer an awful lot.

Draft. Off-white head atop crystal clear amber body. Aroma is medium sweet, smoked cheese, light caramel. taste is medium sweet, smoke, some caramel/bread. Soft medium body. Nose is great, but the flavor is a bit more subdued. A solid beer, but not at the top of the Schlenkerla ladder.

Bottle from Yankee in Sturbridge. Poured into a tall lager glass. Light amber color. Thin off-white head. Excellent smoky aromas with light oak. Flavor is complex. Light sweetness. Good bitterness. Smoke and vanilla notes. Plenty satisfying. I really like this one!

Pours a nice iced tea colour with a very light brown head. At certain angles the copper colour really shines through and there’s a great visible carbonation. Aroma of smoked meats and leather. Great smokey flavour - bacon, leather, charcoal and a very slight licorice.tjis would go excellently with smoked cheese on a cold day. Holy horn . Where do they hide the 8%? Beer is nice and dense with a light carbonation that doesn’t over power. Coats the mouth well and keeps me coming back.
