COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
While for the classic "Aecht Schlenkerla Rauchbier" traditionally beech has been - and still is - used, the malt for "Schlenkerla Oak Smoke" is kilned with Oak wood. The resulting Schlenkerla Oak Smoke Malt has a smoother and more multi layered smoky note than the intensely aromatic Beech Smoke Malt. The hence complex smokiness in the "Schlenkerla Oak Smoke" is paired with the multifaceted bitterness of finest Hallertau aroma hops. With 8% alcohol and amber color it matures for months in the deep brewery cellars underneath Bamberg into a special treat for smoke beer lovers. www.Smokebeer.com

Thoroughly enjoyed from a 16.9oz bottle in a wine glass. The beer pours a deep brown color, with a moderate light brown head. Wondrous notes of smoked meats and German character malt come through in the nose; an intoxicated array of bacon, raisons, caramelized brown sugar, and just a touch of wood. The palate replicates many of the aromas, showing a deep and rich smoke note, followed by a nice but not over-the-top amount of malt depth and complexity. Again, oak shows through, but only slightly, adding to the painting, rather than completely covering the canvas. The finish leaves a lingering note of smoke. Overall, an outstanding beer, by any measurement.

500 ml bottle from Bier-Deluxe.de
Copper, clear body, with a medium, creamy, off-white head.
Aroma of bacon, lots of sweet, dark malts, slight ash.
Taste follows this, with some more sweet fruits and subtle hops.
Medium, slick mouthfeel, with a moderate carbonation.
Finishes smokey, bitter.sweet, a bit wooden.

Very good. Typical bacon notes, paired with a big, smooth malt body. Alcohol is pretty well hidden. Didn’t enjoy this as much as the Urbock though.

bottle kindly shared by Saeglopur, many thanks Thomas :) smells smoked, strong smell of bacon, creamy, quite nice smell. full body, soft carbonation, slick mouthfeel, rather sweet, taste of bacon, citric, light wooden note in the background. finishes rather bitter / sweet. smells nice, taste is a bit weird bitter / sweet, expected a bit more.

Piwo o pięknej miedzianej barwie, idealnie klarowne. Zacne.

Old rating. Love these smoked Beers. Dark brown pour. Bacon, ham, campfire, wood dominate. No apologizes. Medium bodied. Drinkable as rauchs go. Yum.

karpik (70) - Sosnowiec, POLAND - APR 24, 2015
Smoked ham in aroma, caramel, some booze. Copper colour, white head, unfortunately not very stable. In the taste smokeness is very nice, but there is not too much more, alcohol is not hidden very well and starts to disturb in the middle of the bottle. The beer lacks of body and complexity. Overall solid but not my favor one from Bamberg.

50cl bottle purchased at Havnelageret pub, Norway. Pours a nice, slight brown colour. Aroma reminds a little of bacon. The taste is sweet despite the smell of bacon. Would definitely try again.

0,5 l bottle from Bierzwerg, best before 31/5/2015. Slightly hazy, luscious, orangeish amber with a medium large, frothy, slowly diminishing, tan to white head. Lovely aroma of raisins, molasses and cane sugar, covered by a heavy, smoky layer of coal and burnt wood. Superb sweetish taste of raisins, molasses and cane sugar, accompanied with a lovely, not overshadowing, smoky flavour of coal and burnt wood. Relatively short, slightly bitter finish with a lasting smokiness. Medium to full body, smooth and oily mouthfeel, soft to average carbonation. Again a wonderful Schlenkerla brew, so well balanced and intense. Absolutely no recognition of the 8% abv, just damn quaffable.
