4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Thoroughly enjoyed from a 16.9oz bottle in a wine glass. The beer pours a deep brown color, with a moderate light brown head. Wondrous notes of smoked meats and German character malt come through in the nose; an intoxicated array of bacon, raisons, caramelized brown sugar, and just a touch of wood. The palate replicates many of the aromas, showing a deep and rich smoke note, followed by a nice but not over-the-top amount of malt depth and complexity. Again, oak shows through, but only slightly, adding to the painting, rather than completely covering the canvas. The finish leaves a lingering note of smoke. Overall, an outstanding beer, by any measurement.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle - 500ml. Beautiful cloudy chestnut budy with an average off-white frothy head. Lovely malty/hoppy aroma with smokey, oaky, and some spicy hints. Alcohol is well hidden. Its robust taste carries strong oaky notes. Herbs and brown sugar are also noticeable. Ends with a long bitter/smokey finish. Solid!

Gets a ten for the wonderful aroma of German spiced smoked bacon. Buttery, I could expect to be drinking Gruen Speck in a glass. Coppered colour, with a yeasty type of haze in suspension, the flavour is less smoky or swinish. More like a benevolent bock, sweet, with hardly any bitterness, and some cranberry tartness. Brief finish. It is still a worthy relative of those lovely Bamberg smoked beers.

It tastes like a smoky doppelbock. The smoke is not overwhelming, but it is strong. I enjoy the mix of flavors. Very bitter finish--I think it’s from the hops, not the smoked malt.

3.8 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 10/20
The aroma of smoke (bacon) drifts up a medium amber pour wih with ivory head and no lacing. The taste is smoky with flora hints and toasted malts. Medium-full body and moderate carbonation. Overall, this is very tasty and not as smoky as some other Aecht brews. It is my favorite so far.
