3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle 0.5l from P&M Bonn. Pours a clear copper with a fast vanishing off white head. Aroma is smoked ham, burnt wood. Aroma is light bitter, medium sweet, roasted malt, oak wood, smoked meat. Full bodied and very moderate smokey aftertaste. Okay but I prefer the Urbock or Märzen. This beer is too sweet and lacks the smokey punch of a regular schlenkerla.

4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
amber colour, one inch dense off-white head;aroma of smoked ham and cheese, malt, maybe sourish notes; taste of smoked ham again with significant maltyness and hoppy bitterness - cool smoked beer, as always in case of Aecht Schenkerla beers

2.2 AROMA 2/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
Another highly rated beer but not for me, gotta try everything I can to know what’s out there though. 4 oz draft at Jester King today poured apple juice tone clear with mild carbonation and little head. Notably smokey nose, unfortunately reminded me of smoked ham which ruined the experience. Taste was better but not for me still, smokey wood/malts and more almost smoked meat flavor. Thick mouthful, dry bitter end.

4.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20
Clean clear amber orange brown colour. Moderate but just lasting white head. Nose has a deep roasted meaty quality wrapped in sweet smoke. Taste is superbly complex. Clean, rich tantalizingly strong but balanced smoky flavours and the oak quality and alcohol are superbly well integrated. Firm strong intricate structure. Long deep satisfying finish.

3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20
Normally dig these products, but this one wasn’t great. Pour was amber brown, thin head. Aroma of smokey ash and caramel. Flavor followed, dry smokey oak, slight acidity in the finish, dry, and bitter. Meatiness was also lacking the norm from Schlenkerla. Meh.

On draft. Tremendous oaky aroma. Thin, almost absent carbonation. Sweet toffee flavor with a syrupy, sticky mouth feel. Quite an experience.

4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle 50 cl. Pours amber copper color with minimal white lacing head and a smoked ham scent. First observations of the taste is that it has some smoked ham and wood in it, secondary tastes emerge after few sips as sweet and smoked malts, caramel, some spicyness and herbs The smokiness of Hellers rauchbiers are truly unique and thrillingly tasty. One of the best smoked style beers i have tasted. This would even work well as a breakfast in some occasions. Very tasty drink.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle @ #HPJ-13. Pours a clear burnished copper with a small, white head. Aroma is smoke and smoked ham. A bit of oak perhaps as well. Taste is rather sweet. Smoke and smoked ham dominate again, but caramel is quite strong as is certain pale malt graininess. The malt base is really strong in this one in comparison to Urbock or Märzen. Some nuttiness and butteriness. Surprisingly light in the mouth, not much carbonation. A bit of a disappointment perhaps.
