The Original Schlenkerla Lentbeer is an unfiltered smokebeer, brewed according to the Bavarian Purity Law of 1516. Bottom-fermenting yeast gives the reddish brown lentbeer a natural cloudiness. Its smokey aroma is already noticeable in the smell, combined with a fine hoppy note. In the drink the fullbodied, highly drinkable lentbeer shows its strong malty flavour, rounded up with the smokey taste and a light bitterness. Due to the nourishing yeast, the Original Schlenkerla Lentbeer has the "Brotzeit already included" (German word for afternoon snack). Served / Sold: - Only during lent from Ash Wednesday to Easter - Only from the wooden keg at the Schlenkerla Data: Original Gravity: 14.5% Alcohol: 5.5% EBU: 32

Bottle. Dark red, brown, clear. Strong smoked ham, bambergian malts. Some plums, dark fruityness. Med bodied, quite nice balance. Spicy dark plummy smokey flavour. A softer, more dark fruitier schlenkerla. Nice. That smokyness is always something I enjoy.

500 ml bottle. Dark reddish brown colour, off-white head. Smoky aroma with sweetish malts and woody notes. Toasted flavour of smoked ham and sweet malt. The finish is dryish, with moderate bitterness and tar notes. Tasty, but Eiche is still my favourite Schlenkerla.

0,5 l bottle from Schlenkerla webshop, best before end 8/2015. Clear, dark reddish amber with a small, soapy, slowly diminishing, off-white head, leaving not many lacings on the glass. Pleasant, smokey aroma of smoked ham, campfire and ash. Sweetish, malty taste of smoked ham, campfire and ash with hints of caramel and raisins. Persistent, smokey aftertaste with a minimally metallic note. Medium to full body, foamy mouthfeel, soft carbonation. Very aromatic and tasty but I expected a bit more. Wouldn’t say it is the best one from Schlenkerla. Still way above German standards.

Really cool that the is finally bottled! Pours hazy red-hazel, large creamy off-white head that does dissipate but leaves a lot of residual, and good, if clumpy, lacing on the glass. Aroma is smoky, ash char, campfire, some caramel and bread. Flavor is light sweet and a light bitterness, smokiness apparent but certainly not overpowering. Malty and smoky in equal parts. Medium light body, high carbonation, soft mouthfeel. Tasty.

A dark brown, slighty red, a head is medium and blond. Aroma is smokey but it’s balanced and quite dry, some tar liquirice candies, low sweetness, enjoyable. Taste has smoke, malts, only hint of tar liquirice candies, some bitterness in the end. Medium bodied, quite smooth carbonation. Not intensive as Urbock but this has it’s own strenghts. Lighter and dryer, surprisingly fresh and drinkable. Tastefull smoke is dominating.
