COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The Original Schlenkerla Lentbeer is an unfiltered smokebeer, brewed according to the Bavarian Purity Law of 1516. Bottom-fermenting yeast gives the reddish brown lentbeer a natural cloudiness. Its smokey aroma is already noticeable in the smell, combined with a fine hoppy note. In the drink the fullbodied, highly drinkable lentbeer shows its strong malty flavour, rounded up with the smokey taste and a light bitterness. Due to the nourishing yeast, the Original Schlenkerla Lentbeer has the "Brotzeit already included" (German word for afternoon snack). Served / Sold: - Only during lent from Ash Wednesday to Easter - Only from the wooden keg at the Schlenkerla Data: Original Gravity: 14.5% Alcohol: 5.5% EBU: 32

Draught at Smoke and Barrel DC. Gorgeous dark brown/cola colored pour with reddish tints. Nose holds beautiful classic Schlenkerla beechwood smoke, roasted malt, and some touches of cream and beautiful light malty fruit. Same in the flavor, with further balance that really puts this beer into the creme de la creme of smoked beers, and better than those aggressive, less balanced beers like the Urbock. Awesome stuff.

This is the best smoked beer I have had. A big aroma of smoke and peat. The Mild flavors are bread, fruit, mild chocolate, wood and caramel. The strong flavors are smoke, flame and meat. It was really blended well.

Im Geruch rauchig mit leichtem Malzton. Süßmalziger Antrunk mit leichter Rauchnote. Mittelstück stärker buchenholzrauchig mit malzigem Oberton. Abgangs dann schwächer im Rauch, schokoladenmalzig. Echt gut. Festival der Bierkulturen, Köln - 14.05.2011

On tap at Beer Revolution. It pours a murky reddish brown with a small tan head. The aroma is wonderful with salted meats, smoked wood and brown sugar. The flavor is incredibly smoky and smooth with hints of spicy wood. It has a fairly light body with low carbonation. Pretty dry finish, but with a tad of balancing sweetness. Somehow I could drink pint after pint of this and not grow tired of it despite the intense flavor. That’s the beauty of this beer.

Pours clear mahogany with a huge tanned head leaving fine lacing. Aroma is smokey, sweet, malty, leather, fruity; very nice. Flavor is smokey like salty salami, fruity, sweet and nicely bitter. Yet quite dry. Finishes dry and bitter.

On tap. Pours with a clear amber-bronze hued body with a just off-white head. Aromas are smokey, bacon, chlorophenols (rubber), malty, melanoidin, maple, grainy and cereal. Flavors are malty, nearly peat medicinal smoke. Smokey, bacon, malty, cereal, smoked salmon. Medium bubbles, lively. Finishes on the crisper side of things. I think this is a good smoked beer, but I do not like smoke beers, and that said it is not one of the best that I have had.

Draught Good, very fine & dense light-greige head, textbook lace over mahogany clear beer. Smoked ham jumping out of the glass, superbly inviting, inciting hunger, aromas. Smoked & coloured malts. Seems lighter in flavour than the Märzen? Smoked, faintly phenolic and a bit of real saltiness (as from fruits de mer) and bready, sweeter than the Märzen. LIght(er), faintly watery MF but extremely clean palate despite the phenols. All the same, excellent. How they had it out of season?

On tap at Trion Tavern. Smoke, dark fruit and malt aroma. Brown with a small white head. Smoky roasted malt flavor. I really love smoked beers, and this is a good one.
