3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 mcdoug (31) - Middle River, Maryland, USA - JUN 7, 2012
Draught at Of Love and Regret (very cool new Baltimore bistro bar). Very dark amber color. Smoky-salty aroma. Very heavy, frothy lacing and nice body. Smoky and malty, and a teeny bit of soapy taste. Long term quite peaty... great for serious scotch lovers like my wifey (says it?s just about perfect!).
2.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20 esjaygee (3209) - Oak Creek, Wisconsin, USA - JUN 3, 2012
On tap at Landmark 1800. Deep ruby with a thin white head. Aroma of peat, smoked malts and not much else. Taste is a one trick pony of smoky meat/malts with some sweetness lurking underneath. I couldn’t finish this one.
4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20 DYCSoccer17 (3012) - Woodland, California, USA - MAY 28, 2012
14oz sample at Beer Revolution in Oakland. The aroma on this is suprising--sweet, spicy, and lightly smoked. A bit of a peaty character is also there. Reminiscent of an Islay scotch like Lagavulin. Transparent amber body with a small off-white head, which dissipates fairly rapidly. Starts with the hallmark smoked malty flavors, but it becomes a bit sweet and caramelly. Some chocolate flavors are also present. This beer is full-bodied and very balanced. Not overly smoky, just right. Really enjoyable brew.
3.8 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 sonnycheeba (1904) - Federal Hill, Baltimore, Maryland, USA - MAY 23, 2012
Tap. Pours clear amber/ruby with thick, creamy off-white head; good retention and lacing. Aroma is smoked bacon, caramel malt, cherries, earthy hops, and woody notes. Flavor is somewhat watery; malt forward with faint supporting hops and fruit esters; smoke undertones throughout with a dry finish. Medium body with low carbonation and warmth.
4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 Oakes (10936) - Savusavu, FIJI ISLANDS - MAY 19, 2012
Draught, Redlight Redlight. Amber colour. Lots of smoke, in the Heller style. Mild for a Schlenkerla, with brighter biscuity amber malts. Quite dry in the finish. Still quite smokey overall, but for the brewery perhaps less than most beers. A less brash version, but I prefer the brash. Look forward to getting this from the barrel, however.
4.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20 KnutAlbert (5186) - Oslo, NORWAY - MAY 14, 2012
On tap at Ølbaren, Copenhagen.
Very dark red.
Easy drinking, smoky, but not very heavy on the bacon. Dryness, a hint of oak, lovely lacing on the glass.Dry pleasant finish. Would be lovely with rustic food.
3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20 emacgee (3433) - Chapel Hill, North Carolina, USA - MAY 9, 2012
Pours a shark copper brown with two fingers of sandy tan head. Nose is super smokey with lots of cured meat and hints of caramel. A light fruitiness with notes of fig and hay. An intensely smoky flavor as I expected. Grassy hops and hints of caramel. Dry with a soft carbonation and a light hop bite. Awesome.
4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 Beershine (5173) - The Sunshine State, Florida, USA - MAY 3, 2012
Draft at redlight. Gorgeous. Dark rich. Aroma of charred and caramelized wood. Silky oily mouthfeel is hot in the finish. Dry, toasty, nearly burnt wood blended with the characteristic sweetness of the rich caramelly malt, singing in unison. I could fast on this.

Draft from wooden cask at Lagerhaus (Palm Harbor, FL). It pours a slightly cloudy auburn color with a billowy foamed tan head. The smoked malt is immediately noticeable in the aroma, but upon first sip it completely engulfs you, in a good way. This is truly a delicious beer. Glad I was able to finally find and try this one given the extremely small window of opportunity.
4.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 TURDFERGUSON (3565) - Carrboro, North Carolina, USA - APR 28, 2012
Layered reddish brown with a thick just off-white head, lots of lace. Nose is fairly light, toasty malt, some hints of what’s to come. Flavor is where it’s at in this beast. Super drinkable while maintaining a excellent rauch flavor. delish. I could easily fast with this.
