COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The Original Schlenkerla Lentbeer is an unfiltered smokebeer, brewed according to the Bavarian Purity Law of 1516. Bottom-fermenting yeast gives the reddish brown lentbeer a natural cloudiness. Its smokey aroma is already noticeable in the smell, combined with a fine hoppy note. In the drink the fullbodied, highly drinkable lentbeer shows its strong malty flavour, rounded up with the smokey taste and a light bitterness. Due to the nourishing yeast, the Original Schlenkerla Lentbeer has the "Brotzeit already included" (German word for afternoon snack). Served / Sold: - Only during lent from Ash Wednesday to Easter - Only from the wooden keg at the Schlenkerla Data: Original Gravity: 14.5% Alcohol: 5.5% EBU: 32

Draught. Rootbeer-float-foamy head persists for ten minutes with creamy lacing over an dark amber body. Aroma is umami, smoke, and produce. Taste is umami and bitter. Palate is light and creamy with fine and lively carbonation. Excellent rauchbier

Bottle from World Beer Market. Pours a copper-brown with a big light beige foamy head that lasts. Massive smoked ham and bacon nose, much like the Cratz beer snacks they sell here. The taste reveals more caramel malt hinted at in the aroma, plenty of smoked meats. It’s moderately fizzy, quite bitter up front, medium-bodied, a little chewy, lingering flavour.

The first taste is bitterer than the Märzen of the same brewery, it is also dryer and a bit lighter. The smoke isn’t as fat and overwhelming as that beer. This makes the Fastenbier more drinkable and refreshing. It is, of course, mostly about the well-integrated smoked malt but also about the floral-grassy hops. Some brown bread and rye crispbread. Medium to light body. The aftertaste got semi-sweet notes of brown sugar and molasses, smoked salami (with a pitch of salt) and sticky golden syrup sweetness. The surprisingly smooth finish is caramel-sweet and a bit smoked.

A deep amber coloured beer with a thick head that stays quite a while. The aroma consists of fresh smoke with some sweetness in it. Tastewise the beer is almost perfect. Smoke, malts and some brown sugar. Finish is bitter, leaves a smoky taste in the mouth that lasts pretty long time. Maybe a little too much carbonation in my opinion.

Nice, not overly smokey

Bottle. Large and mostly diminishing head. Moderate, malty and sweetish aroma, some caramel, smokiness and some bacon. Body is medium to full, malty and sweetish flavor, some caramel, some smokiness and bacon, light metal. Finish is average to long, malty and lightly sweetish - sweetish, light caramel, some smokiness and bacon, light metal. Nice smoky one from Bamberg – notes of sharp metal in the finish, bit too much caramel. Nice head.

Bottle @ home. Pours a copper colored liquid with a tan head. Aroma of smoke, dark fruits and herbs with a sweet caramel backbone.Texture is smooth with smooth carbonation and medium body. Flavors of smoke, caramel, licorice root, leather, grass. Lingering smoke adn some red fruits. Balancing bitterness. My favorite Schlenkerla.

500ml bottle pours amber in color with a finger and a half of off-white head that leaves some decent lacing on the glass. Aroma is smoke with caramel and grassy notes. Taste is a grassy hop bitterness with a caramel malty sweetness finishing with the smoke. Medium bodied with average carbonation. Overall, this is a good smoked brew that is worth checking out.

Keg BD Camden. Pours deep auburn, thin lacy head. Sweet barbecue nose. The smoke on the taste is obvious but not overwhelming. Some caramel and sweetness in the back. Like this a lot. Gives you nice smoky burps!

500ml brown bottle. Pours out clear and orange colour. Holds a fat column of tan head with very sticky edges, thick bands of lacing. Nose has delicious smoked meat/bacon. Taste has some malt sweetness with wood, smoke, meat. Late bitterness and grassy hop notes. Light bodied. Another great Schlenkerla brew.
