COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The Original Schlenkerla Lentbeer is an unfiltered smokebeer, brewed according to the Bavarian Purity Law of 1516. Bottom-fermenting yeast gives the reddish brown lentbeer a natural cloudiness. Its smokey aroma is already noticeable in the smell, combined with a fine hoppy note. In the drink the fullbodied, highly drinkable lentbeer shows its strong malty flavour, rounded up with the smokey taste and a light bitterness. Due to the nourishing yeast, the Original Schlenkerla Lentbeer has the "Brotzeit already included" (German word for afternoon snack). Served / Sold: - Only during lent from Ash Wednesday to Easter - Only from the wooden keg at the Schlenkerla Data: Original Gravity: 14.5% Alcohol: 5.5% EBU: 32

Thanks to The_ Beer_ God for the invite to the party to enjoy this beauty. You gotta love smoked beers to enjoy this. Beautiful copper color with just the right amount of smokiness-present and tasty but not as overpowering as the marzen or urbock. Full and rich with subtle hints of hops on the finish. It was worth the trouble to obtain!

Deep hazy amberish brown under a rocky and sticky light tan head. Mild aroma that’s a little smokey, a little meaty, a little toasty and something kinda semisweet, like date fruit. Smooth and balanced flavors that’s slightly smokey, somewhat toast-y, bready, gently sweet and medium flavored. Quaffable, clean, balanced and not overbearing for a smoked. Just kinda even tempered.

Robe caramel foncé, grosse carbo, gros collet persistant. Bien marquée sur les notes fumées, du caramel derriere. Relativement mince et comme toujours avec cette brasserie elle se boit tres bien meme avec un niveau eleve de fumé.

Aroma is deeply smoked grains, hickory, deep rich malts, caramel, ash and pepperoni . Taste is rich malts, smoked malts, caramel, clove, earthiness and slight oakiness. Appearance is a clear dark amber with a thin pearl head that retains fairly well .

500ml Bottle- Brown in colour. Beech, berries and ash in the aroma. Caramel, beech, ash and maple can all be detected in the smoky and slightly nutty taste. Some raisins can be detected in the finish. Tasty but very rich.

Never ever get sick of these Aecht beers. Maybe I should smarten up and put them all side by side so I can actually nail down the differences. Seriously smooth smoky meatness, caramelness, slight sweet pepperiness. Soft. Taste follows in the same vein but with a decent ’chew’ to it. Actually noticing the hops which is cool. Drying with an obvious hop bite. The taste seems to be a blend of meat and cheese when comparing the smokes in each. Short, mainly undetailed review as I just want to enjoy.

Erittäin kaunis olut. Punertavanruskea, kirkas ja todella tiiviin/tiheän pienikuplaisen vaahdon omaava kokonaisuus. Vaahto ikäänkuin pilveilee ja kumpuilee tiiviisti oluen päällä usean sentin kerroksella jättäen myös runsasta pitsihuntua lasin reunoille. Kaunista. Tuoksu palvikinkkuinen, savuinen ja tervainen. Todella nautittava.

Appearance: hazy medium amber with one finger of creamy ivory head, excellent retention and moderate lacing. (4/5) Aroma: hardwood smoke, caramel malt, savoury meat. (8/10) Taste: moderate smoke, moderate sweet, mild bitter. (8/10) Medium body, moderate carbonation, off-dry smoky finish. (4/5) Mmm... Bacon-y! A very pleasant, easy-drinking Rauchbier, with strong but not overwhelming smokiness. I’m really starting to appreciate Rauchbiers in general and the Aecht Schlenkerla lineup more specifically, and this is quite a nice example. The smokiness in particular is very well implemented, and comes across more as bacon curing (i.e. hardwood) than campfire (i.e. softwood). In fact, this might be an excellent place for neophytes to begin exploring Rauchbiers, given the overall quite mellow character. (16/20)
