COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The Original Schlenkerla Lentbeer is an unfiltered smokebeer, brewed according to the Bavarian Purity Law of 1516. Bottom-fermenting yeast gives the reddish brown lentbeer a natural cloudiness. Its smokey aroma is already noticeable in the smell, combined with a fine hoppy note. In the drink the fullbodied, highly drinkable lentbeer shows its strong malty flavour, rounded up with the smokey taste and a light bitterness. Due to the nourishing yeast, the Original Schlenkerla Lentbeer has the "Brotzeit already included" (German word for afternoon snack). Served / Sold: - Only during lent from Ash Wednesday to Easter - Only from the wooden keg at the Schlenkerla Data: Original Gravity: 14.5% Alcohol: 5.5% EBU: 32

Definitely smoked meat and banana ~ my first impressions. Sweeter and less dry than other smoked beers I’ve had. Slightly roasty with peaty undertones and some sort of caramel mocha. Amazing flavor. Tried to distinguish whether the raisin/current tones were just in the aroma but couldn’t. Tasted them too. Fairly subtle finish, so so close to perfect with lingering slightly metallic and burnt sugar.

I’m not the biggest fan of smoked beers and would’ve probably listed it as my least favorite style. This is truly multidimensional and amazing.

Tap. Pours clear amber/ruby with thick, creamy off-white head; good retention and lacing. Aroma is smoked bacon, caramel malt, cherries, earthy hops, and woody notes. Flavor is somewhat watery; malt forward with faint supporting hops and fruit esters; smoke undertones throughout with a dry finish. Medium body with low carbonation and warmth.

Draught, Redlight Redlight. Amber colour. Lots of smoke, in the Heller style. Mild for a Schlenkerla, with brighter biscuity amber malts. Quite dry in the finish. Still quite smokey overall, but for the brewery perhaps less than most beers. A less brash version, but I prefer the brash. Look forward to getting this from the barrel, however.

On tap at Ølbaren, Copenhagen. Very dark red. Easy drinking, smoky, but not very heavy on the bacon. Dryness, a hint of oak, lovely lacing on the glass.Dry pleasant finish. Would be lovely with rustic food.

Pours a shark copper brown with two fingers of sandy tan head. Nose is super smokey with lots of cured meat and hints of caramel. A light fruitiness with notes of fig and hay. An intensely smoky flavor as I expected. Grassy hops and hints of caramel. Dry with a soft carbonation and a light hop bite. Awesome.

Draft at redlight. Gorgeous. Dark rich. Aroma of charred and caramelized wood. Silky oily mouthfeel is hot in the finish. Dry, toasty, nearly burnt wood blended with the characteristic sweetness of the rich caramelly malt, singing in unison. I could fast on this. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Draft from wooden cask at Lagerhaus (Palm Harbor, FL). It pours a slightly cloudy auburn color with a billowy foamed tan head. The smoked malt is immediately noticeable in the aroma, but upon first sip it completely engulfs you, in a good way. This is truly a delicious beer. Glad I was able to finally find and try this one given the extremely small window of opportunity.

Layered reddish brown with a thick just off-white head, lots of lace. Nose is fairly light, toasty malt, some hints of what’s to come. Flavor is where it’s at in this beast. Super drinkable while maintaining a excellent rauch flavor. delish. I could easily fast with this.

From the cask at the Schlenkerla. 0.5 litre served in Schlenkerla glass. Had a copper colour, very hazy, two finger thick head, oily on top. Strong meat smell that over powered the malt and hops that might have been there. Tasted less smoke than the Maerzen, earthy with hints of clove and sweetness. Very smooth mouthfull, almost silky. Very easy to drink, must drink Bamberg beer.
