COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The Original Schlenkerla Lentbeer is an unfiltered smokebeer, brewed according to the Bavarian Purity Law of 1516. Bottom-fermenting yeast gives the reddish brown lentbeer a natural cloudiness. Its smokey aroma is already noticeable in the smell, combined with a fine hoppy note. In the drink the fullbodied, highly drinkable lentbeer shows its strong malty flavour, rounded up with the smokey taste and a light bitterness. Due to the nourishing yeast, the Original Schlenkerla Lentbeer has the "Brotzeit already included" (German word for afternoon snack). Served / Sold: - Only during lent from Ash Wednesday to Easter - Only from the wooden keg at the Schlenkerla Data: Original Gravity: 14.5% Alcohol: 5.5% EBU: 32

Draft from wooden cask at Lagerhaus (Palm Harbor, FL). It pours a slightly cloudy auburn color with a billowy foamed tan head. The smoked malt is immediately noticeable in the aroma, but upon first sip it completely engulfs you, in a good way. This is truly a delicious beer. Glad I was able to finally find and try this one given the extremely small window of opportunity.

500 ml bottle from Les Vignerons. Wonderful deep dark amber/light copper, perfectly clear, with a nice, fluffy, forever lasting off white head. The nose is dominated by smokey and meaty notes, not too over the top, but certainly very much present. A hint of smoked Provola and some generic toffee/caramel presence. Taste pretty much follow suite, I was expecting a more extreme/complex beer, but it’s quite simple even if still dynamic. Chestnut honey like sweetness, super high drinkability, lingering toasted and campfire smoke taste with some fried bacon reminiscence. It does get slightly cloying toward the end, but I find it an acceptable and minor detail. Soft carbonation, light to medium body, slightly oily texture. Nice indeed.

A clear dark ambeer beer with lots of small particles floating around. Nose is smoky with notes of beech, bacon and peat. Taste is rich, mildly sweet and with a dry, mong finish. Medium carbonation and rich, balanced body. Very nice and well balanced, best smoked beer i tried so far.

Keg at Brewdog, Shepherds Bush, Saturday 2nd May 2015 in company of Jackie and Simon Dark, Dark brown with a ruby glint, really smokey but fresh and really full flavoured, the smokey sausage is great but certainly not to intrusive. Great stuff. A7 A4 T7 P4 Ov14 3.6

On tap@ Wildeman. Finally, I got this one. :-) The aroma has caramel malt, strong and pretty bacon German smoke and some grassy hops. Clear, amber coloured beer with a thin off white head. The taste is light sweet, has bacon, caramel, grassy hops. Bit sticky palate. Good stuff.

Tap @ In de Wildeman, medium sample. Almost clear copper color, short frothy head. Aroma of smoke, earthy and grassy hop, quite some caramel and toffee. Like a smoked alt. Soft bitterness, soft smokeyness. Not as smoked as other schlenkerla’s, but combined with wonderful caramel and slight hoppiness. Good stuff.

500ml. its been ages since Ive had a rauchbier from Aecht , and Ive never had this one before . The nose straight away reminds you of the relentless smoky nuance that their beers showcase ...bacon, burnt wood , dry malt , oil - All pretty grate as aromas go . Poured into a German jug , deep amber/brown ,with beige foam that lasts ages . Ok , there is a bitter woodiness that is dry on the finish , kinda salty , complements the meaty texture. This does everything you would expect from this brewery . Gud textbook rauchber .

Pours a rich, reddish brown with a loud and foamy tan head that hangs out awhile. Aroma is a wonderful smoky campfire that evokes smoked meats. Quite active on the tongue and a medium mouthfeel. Taste is a pleasant smoke riding bready malts and culminating in noble hops and a lingering smoky bitterness. If you like rauchbiers, this is a beauty. I enjoy and appreciate the style. Burpalicious too!
