Except the fact that this beer tastes of rotten smoked cheese to me, nothing to complain, and with a big chunky smoked applewood doorstopper probably bliss :-) it pours an innocently golden straw colour with a big bubbly head. light smoky notes in the nose, which will hit you hard when you taste it. for a rauchbier too yoghurty. but hey it is extremly well made and even i have to honour that. | 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Mar 8, 2008 500ml bottle. Pours a light yellow straw colour with a big white head. Aroma of lager malt with a light smokiness. Taste-wise, it’s a case of your usual malt and hops meet smoky bacon for a party! The creamy mouthfeel helps the flavour linger and adds to the ’snack in a glass’ feel, but it’s not that heavy. Overall, nice for fans of smoked beers. Lubiere (4480), Ottawa, Ontario, Canada
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Mar 3, 2008 A lightly hazed pale golden beer with a thick frothy white head. Aroma is faintly doughy and fruity, with light smokiness. In mouth, a nice light sweet malt, like freshly mashed grains, with pleasant smoky notes, light crisp German hopping and light body. Bottle bought last May 2007 at Spirit Haus, Amherst, MA, 3.80$US. faroeviking (6023), Republica Vikingo de las, Faroe Islands

Reading a few rates and there is talk of bacon, so that’s what it was! I did miss a meal drinking this I think, that must be why. Is there a better drunken food than bacon on waburtons? No, there is not. I did enjoy it a lot. mtoast (290), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA

Pours a very light golden color with stark white foam, great lacing and retention. Somewhat restrained smokiness for a Schlenkerla, some nice light maltiness and German hop aroma also. Flavor is nice and crisp with some nice bacon like smokiness. It’s like a great Helles that was dry hopped with bacon, good stuff. pantani (1896), Salinas, California, USA

| 1.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 1/5 | 4/10 | 1/5 | 7/20 | Jan 31, 2008 Had the pleasure of sampling this at the 1/27/2008 Pittsburgh ratebeer.com gathering and festival upstairs, Sharp Edge Creekhouse. It will be a long time, if ever I am invited again and I see a spread of bottles like I did there - ever again. I am not good enough for the beers that were that we sampled! For example, how about this beer, the prime example of smoke from yinzer! Aroma of fine honey glazed ham or sweet pie! Almost sickening in olfactory sweetness. Attractive like it must be for a bee to a beatiful flower! Look is very clear pale yellow. Barely any carbonation. taste is more woody than smoky. Vanilla at times. Very very unique, difficult and meaty! Thanks Mark, glad to have had the chancce to try this!
