Styles (1653), Lincoln Park, Michigan, USA Aug 14, 2007 Golden with dense white head, fades to film, decent lacing. Bacon up front, dry biscuit character takes over, somewhat grainy in the background. Flavor much the same. Smoky bacon, dry biscuit/pils malt, very grainy, some residuel sweetness, with herbal/grassy hops near the finish. While it doesn’t sound like much, at least in my words, this is a very nice brew overall. Well balanced, very clean, and highly sessionable. Would have to guess this is one of the better "lagers" I’ve ever had. Not a euro-styles expert, but reminds me of some sort of smoked maibock-pils something or other. LiebeBier (788), Annapolis, Maryland, USA Aug 10, 2007 Draft - Clear golden color with a hint of smoke in the aroma and a thin white head. I loved the taste of this beer. A subdued smoky flavor with an excellent helles backbone. Could drink it all day. Quack-Duck (3132), Bodensee/Schwarzwald, Germany Jul 29, 2007 bottle, thanks to MoritzF!
Pale yellow, medium-sized head. The aroma is not smoky. However, in the taste the smokiness is clearly detectable. Starts rather smoky, the middle püart is smoky as well, the finish is dominated by hops. Not as full-bodied and smoky as other Schlenkerla beers, but still very very nice. damienv10 (108), Chicago, Illinois, USA Jul 25, 2007 Light lucid straw with a small white head. Aroma is fresh yeasty dough and musty at the same time and I swear there’s this funky banana smell too. Light and crisp on the palate. It tastes a little like bananas, smoked bologna, and faint hops. Very drinkable as a Helles should be. gnoff (3560), Göteborg, Sweden Jul 23, 2007 (50 cl bottle) Smoked? No way! No smoke what so ever in this one... Pale Lager for sure! Clear pale golden color, small white head. Sweet sugary malty scent, some corn. Sweet malty and vegetable taste. Medium mouthfeel and bitterness. b33r (363), Cleveland, Ohio, USA Jul 20, 2007 Orange in color with medium white head. There wasn’t much to the aroma. Flavor was interesting. My first smoked beer. It was really good for a lager, but I guess smoked is a different category.. RagallachMC (631), Cleveland, Ohio, USA Jul 18, 2007 Bottle. Aroma: Biscuity malt, noble hops, apples, and faint whisper of smoke. Appearance: Light amber in color and clear. Off white head was full and frothy with good retention. Fair lacing. Flavor: Biscuity malt with a nice caramel note, noble hops that slant towards the spicey/earthy. Smoke is subtle and ties with everything else pretty well. Medium bitterness and a medium-sweet finish. Palate: Medium-light bodied. Medium carbonation. Overall: I liked this one. Smoke was interesting rather than overpowering. turbothy (717), Bonn, Germany Jul 10, 2007 Pours with the look of a standard lager. Smoky, slightly skunky aroma. More hops than usual in a german helles, and a nice smoky touch in the aftertaste.
