BigBeer45 (676), Troy, Michigan, USA Nov 7, 2006 500 ml bottle, white head when poured,
pale yellow straw lager, smelled of smoke from fat on a bar-b-q, pork fat, bacon, faint charred smoke and faint malts on the nose, some lacing on the glass, tasted of smoke, oily smoke, did not feel oily in the mouth,
malts and light hops are there in the middle and finish, the mouth feel is light medium.
ehhdayton (1113), USA Oct 31, 2006 Pours a nice golden color with a decent white head. The aroma is lighly malty with a bit of smokiness. The flavor is lighly malty with a light touch of hops and a crisp finish. Braudog (3733), Dayton, Ohio, USA Oct 15, 2006 Poured a deep orange-golden color with a nice bubbly effervesence. Previous rater is right ... this does smell like an ashtray. Smooth and malty but there is a nice little smoked-sausage-like essence here. This would go GREAT with a nice BBQ or the aforementioned smoked sausage. Very good. MiP (8793), Sønderborg, Denmark Oct 11, 2006 Bottle. Clear yellow colour. Plasticy, thready head. The aroma has a little ashtray. The flavour is quite malty with a bit of smoke, more than a hint. Pleasant, medium bitterness. And pleasant mild to medium carbonation. GregClow (2493), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Oct 9, 2006 Bottle sample at Union Beer Trade Tasting, NYC. Light golden with a small white head. Aroma is an interesting blend of fresh lager - bready malt, grassy hops - and well-balanced smoke. Flavour is nice and fresh as well, with a good maltiness to balance the smoke, and some hops hitting the back of the tongue. Not as killer as the Marzen, but a nice diversion - I could imagine this as a good session beer, actually. ante (2904), Stockholm, Sweden Oct 4, 2006 Sampled draught at Akkurat, Stockholm. bronze coloured with rich white head. Aroma of smoked pork, biscuiy malts and grass. Smokey and sakty flavour. with a firm bready malty base. Long smokey and crisp aftertaste that lingers on. beermatrix (1497), Twin Cities, Minnesota, USA Oct 2, 2006 Clear medium gold. Medium head of crunchy white foam. Lots of carbonation bubbles after the pour, slows to a few steady streams as it sits and the cap fades. Ghostly thin lacing in inky stringed patterms.
Aroma is smokey with a clean, crisp, pale malt profile. Very distinct and peculiar with a tang of smoked meat and grain. Nice.
Taste is broad and lasting with a savory little spiceyness of grasses and beechwood. Topping taste in the middle of the smokey stuff that stays nicely weaved within a pale malt sweetness and mild, easy going tang. Perfect floating finish of leftover smokeyness and a feathery spiced hoppy dryness.
Feel is bold, rounded, smooth, and solidly placed in a medium body. Nice little centering sweetness and one fantastic finish of spice and impressionable length..
One very solid, straight up goodalicious, Helles Lager! jpm30 (1588), East Central, Georgia, USA Oct 2, 2006 From a 500 ml. stubby euro brown bottle with no freshness date.
Poured a clear lager golden with a foamy white head that settled into a thin sudsy lacing.
Smokey malt aromas with hints of grain, bread and floral hops.
Good carbonation and a crisp, slick, creamy smooth light-medium bodied mouthfeel.
Delicious tasting, toasted grain and sweet, slightly sugary malts mingled with smoked malts, a light spicy and floral hoppiness, the hop are have a soft bitterness, just enough to balance against the sweet, smoky malts, and a sweet grainy finish with a soft smokiness linger on the tongue.
The more beers I try from this brewery, the more I’m impressed with their quality, you don’t have to like smoke beers to find this very drinkable.
