Commercial Description:
A golden-colored lager beer with a hint of smokyness (from smoke residue in the brewery filters, not smoked malt). Editor’s note: Since this is not intended as a smoked beer, and is not billed as such, it has been classed here as a Helles, despite some samples having residual smoke character. Original gravity: 11.5% Alcohol: 4.3% Bitterness: 30

Tryed this beer at Max’s, it is absolutly wonderful. very clean taste, the first sip really tasted smokey but that soon went away to reviel the flavor of hops and malt. The beer overall is well ballenced, no one flavor hits you too strong.

This here is Schlenkerla’s try at a "normal" beer, and they have succeeded magnificently...very smooth lager with a nice sweetness at the end, goes down very easily.

I really liked this one. Sweet, and smoke, without being overwhelming. About the same smoke as the Alaska Smoked Porter.

Pours pale peachy gold with a 1 finger creamy white head. Aroma is smoke, grass, lemon, sweet grain, lightly toasted grain, a little soured malt and a touch of floury bread rolls. Flavor is like smoked granola, or something right away-smokey, slightly sweet and grainy-very nice, lightly roasted nuts, some biscuit and bread notes, grilled vegetables - in a good way - definite mineral notes and apple peel near the finish. Finish is campfire biscuits, grass and lightly bitter hops, with a crisp mineral fade that cleans the palate of smoke notes before they become stagnate. Palate is light bodied with a light yet slightly sharp carbonation and a dry that borders beween dry and slightly oily. I hate to see this bottle go, I really need to buy more of this the next time I can. I’d imagine that this would be a fantastic beer to pair with just about any meat or veggie dish, sushi would probably work extremely well too, mmmm... salmon.

Bottle 50cl. Pours a clear pale golden brew with small white head. Medium body, typical Munich lager style. The outstanding point in this beer is the slight smoke taste, which is very subtle and pleasing. Great stuff and unmistakable a Schlenkerla.

This lager, reminiscent of a rauchbier, is absolutely fantastic. Enjoyed on tap at the Map Room in Chicago after I’ve had one more other high powered ales than I should have, this was the perfect beer for the time. Very subtle hint of smokiness, very drinkable, also very enjoyable and savory. I can drink this stuff all day.

Crystal clear golden color with thin white head. Aroma is mildly smoky with some sweet lager and grainy malts. Malty taste from the lightly roasted to sweeter malts. About midway a small bolt of smoke flavor surfaces and then disappears leaving a refreshing grainy malt flavor that lingers to the next sip. There is also a noticeable bitter hop presence throughout the taste profile. This beer manages to create a balance between the malts, hops and the smokiness. Excellent tasting beer. A great choice from Schlenkerla if you’re in the mood for a mild smoky beer as opposed to the pure smoky, smoldering embers they have managed with a few other beers.

This is great beer! Stonecrusher stopped by and mentioned that the case I had was not dated and ran the risk of being old, I trust the big lug so we cracked one in the store to test it. Poured a nice light gold with a thin head, that had me a little worried at first because it died so fast. The smell was slightly smoky, like a nice western highland scotch, wicked with some hops and a good green leaf hint. Had a hint of rye bread in the nose. The taste is smooth with a smoky/hickory pepper that would pair well most cheese, and good marbled beefcuts. It finishes with a subtle malt/hop body thats like a sour dough bread. Best beer I have had in a while. I quote crusher "this beer rocks"
