3 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Taster at Binn’y, Orland Park. A representative was there to explain that does not use smoked malt, but is made using the same equipment that’s used for the brewer’s smoked beers, and this is just picking up the residuals. So yes, it does have a lighter smoke flavor, which seems to be in proportion to its lighter lager malt color. Not half bad, kinda like the Tinkoff rauchbeer I had in Russia (also a lightly smoked pale beer). Gets in a few vanilla notes toward the end. Admittedly, you still have to be ready for smoked beer before you’ll enjoy this, but it works for me.

Mit dem Lager von Schlenkerla komm ich nicht zurecht. Zu viel Kohlensäure, der leichte Rauchgeschmack harmonisiert nicht mit dem schlanken Körper.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Crisp cereal, biscuit, sourdough bread, and floral, slightly herbal hops increasingly give way to honey and a hint of smokiness in the nose as you work your way down your glass. The mouthfeel is nimble, with moderate carbonation and a light but firm body. The taste is cerealy bitter, with a sudden, dry finish with the slightest peat. There isn’t much lingering bitterness, but in between sips the beautiful hop aromatics resurrect under the palate -- light ginger and floral flavors give the otherwise dry aftertaste a lot of color. Sweet Jesus, I loved it.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle, medium stiff fluffy head, almost completely clear yellow color with just a touch of haziness, subtle smokey aroma with a biscuity maltiness behind it, the same subltle smokey biscuit combination in the flavor with a light underlying sweetness and a medium empathic bitterness. Original and immensely enjoyable.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle. Moderate smoked aroma. Pours with a light golden colour and virtually no head. Malts, cloves, caramel and nutmeg flavours are present with underlying smokiness. Medium bodied. More malts/smokiness in the finish. Superb.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pours a clear shinny slightly light golden with a small creamy white head. Grassy, smoky aroma with a clean, bittersweet grassy flavor and a gentle grainy and herbal aftertaste. Solid medium palate, filling and drinkable at the same time. Very solid.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Appearance: clear straw, one finger of loose white head diminishing rapidly to a thin skim, patchy lacing. (3/5) Aroma: smoke, grainy malt. (6/10) Taste: moderate-low sweet, moderate bitter. (6/10) Medium-light body, moderate-low carbonation, lingering smoky bitter finish. (3/5)
The smoke is initially somewhat overwhelming, but as the bottle progresses, it becomes less so. Overall, it’s relatively light and easy drinking. (12/20)

3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 1/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 17/20
Aroma is smoked, peaty, and roasted malts with some caramel hints. Taste is lighter in tone with still some smokiness. Clove and pettiness in the background. Pretty smooth overall. Appearance is a clear gold with a thin pearl head that retains fairly poorly.
